nvrenuf, not me! :pimp:

I don't mind checking valve lash from time to time. I don't really drive that much, whether it's in my DD or in my K5. Since August I've put a little more than 1,000 miles on the K5. I've maybe put 2,000 miles on my daily, but I also take that on longer trips, because it has more room than my wife's car. It's only 6 miles round trip to one of the places I work and maybe 15 miles round trip to the other place I work. The school I go to is probably another 15 miles round trip.

IME lashing the valves isn't a big deal.
If you use quality parts and use a flat tappet cam-additive every oil change the lash moves very very little. It IS the reason I went with a solid flat tappet in my engine.
I set my rpm range and we chose parts based on that.
We also used oriface faced lifters, but it isn't a necessity.
My head guy customized my valvetrain and headwork for my application and I couldn't be happier with it. Experience counts!

I have nothing against flat tappet cams, I just figure if I can get the same numbers and not have to pull the valve covers why not? My old truck had a solid roller cam in it, easy enough to adjust but, again, why if I don't have to. If someone would invent forever spark plugs or gaskets I'd buy them! :rotfl:

So I know that my engine isn't impressive, but I went solid roller so that I didn't have to worry about grinding a lifter apart and scarring cylinders again.

I kept to a small cam to retain drive ability, which helps me get the mileage that I do. But I would imagine that most won't believe my numbers.

Now I will admit that I would like to try a small bump up on the cam to see what happens, just because I have 15K on it as is and like to play with things! !!

For a distributor, should I go with a tbi type distributor and seperate coil, since that's what I'm setup for now? Or should I go with an hei type? Thinking about it, I guess I need to go with a vacuum advance hei type, since I won't have an ecm to control it.

Good poly locks in addition to Dave's recommendations.
Solids are fine. Rollers are better.

Unless you wanna swing for the fence and go solid roller...

I watched that the other day at work and just rewatched it. I've got 2.5" exhaust right now and will probably keep it until I go doubler. I don't want to route the 3" and then have to reroute it when I put it in. I've been looking everywhere for long tube 2" primary headers that'll fit our trucks, but can't find them.

I also bought the rebuild kit and the 11-676-4 cam and lifter set. Probably order the Pistons next week and put the short block together. I still need to bring the heads to the shop. I've decided to keep the smaller valves for the lower rpm range hp and torque numbers, but according to compcams the heads will have to be machined for the valve springs and maybe the seals.
