what are you guys doin with your front axles? i just got my 10* shims in and it makes a really bad angle for the bolts to thread into the housing on the pass. side of the axle.

You need a third shim to put on the top of the passenger side spring pack. This will make your passenger spring plate sit flat again and everything will work fine.

Be advised that rotating the pinion up 10 degrees will change your caster and will seriously compromise your trucks streetability.

i know, but i also moved the alxe 1" forward with a zero rate, and since its moved up the spring alittle more, it takes away alittle from that 10* shim. so it really only turned the axle about 8*

Chevy D60's have 5-6 degrees of negative caster, so even if you rotate the axle *only* 8 deg. you will end up with a couple degrees of positive caster. Trust me, you'll realize the first time you drive it that things aren't right.

The right way to do it (i.e. so you can still have the necessary amount of caster) is to cut and turn the inner c's so you can keep caster and then weld them back up.

*EDIT* Whoa, I just realized you only have 6" of suspension lift. Why do you feel you need 10 degree shims?

its alittle more than 6"... its 6" springs, 6" shackles, zero rates, and the shim(which is an inch thick). the shackles are what really screwed my angle, not to mention that its a sm465, so the transfercase is closer to the front by about 2". 10* shims didnt even make it perfect. something like 12* would be alot closer. BTW, you say 60's have 5-6* of neg. caster, but after i put the shims in, it still its alittle on the negative. ill try to get an exact degree later today.

in. i wanna see pics of this stack and be sure to get some of the steering also. why 6" shackles? just get some bigger lift springs.

reason for shackles was because my spring eyes were hitting the frame on the shackle side with the stock length ones. what do you wanna see in the steering? btw, measured my caster. even with the shims, i still have 3* of neg. caster. i know its not alot, but its better than none :doah:

i wanna see how many blocks and spacers and drop items you have for your steering. also the angle of the drag link.

its crossover steering, so there wont be any drop items except for the drop pitman arm that everyone uses..?

thats alot of shim

i have 8inch springs and 6 inch shackles, and i only have like 5 or 6 degree shims

since you never said in this thread that you had x-over, i was going by your signature, that says it was coming soon.

and you have an automatic tranny, correct? if you do, thats why. manual crossmembers are alittle over 2" forward compared to autos, which doesnt help the angle at all.

yzeater, its not crossover *yet*, because im swapping to crossover when i put everything back together. i dont have any steering on it at the moment. i just got the u-bolts back on and tight, so that is next on the list. ill get some pics when its done.

old short style 465 / 205, w/ crossmember dropped about an inch and a quarter

somthing that may be my saving grace is what people refer to as the HD style front output, instead of having the flange, its like a rear fixed style, i get a little better angle out of it

but trust me, im in the same boat
