Well I thought I was sitting pretty with my tranny swap. Put in a 465/205 combo, NON-hydro manual clutch set up. My propblem it when I have the engine running with the clutch in everything is fine. The truck currently doesnt have axels in it. the moment I start to release the clutch, no matter what gear I have it in, including the wobbly gear ( Neutral), I stops the engine cold dead. It doesnt matter how hard or easy I let off, nor the amount of gas, theres a little clutch slipping together as if I was about to engage and then dead. I would figure if I had it in the granny gear, no drive shafts, engine running clutch let out it should just turn the output shaft in the 205, which was also moved through all options. I think I had the output shaft spinning maybe once. I just dont get what would cause this, need help. Maybe I am just thinking in the wrong areas, could the 205 but seized up in some way? Ws ablo to spin everything freely by hand before I installed it all. Everything apears to be lined up properly, care was taken while the combo was installed to make sure the throw out bearing lined up nice and the splines of the 465 slid in nice. Dont think its the clutch cause while the petal is depress all is well. I am stumped, humbled and kneal before the knoledge of the forum. Also cant get 465 into 2nd, just fights me. It will go into all the other gears with no fight what so ever, but I believe this could be the least of my worries

It sounds like your shifter is jammed up... Pop the shifter out, and make sure that all of the rails are lined up properly, they should make a rectangle. If they are, put the shifter half way into reverse, and pop the top off, and check to make sure none of the forks are bent.

If your transmission is locked into two gears at once, it will lock the transmission right up, and cause exactly the problem you are having :)

If your transmission checks out, then the only thing left is the t-case...

I think your last sentence gave up your problem. I bet your tranny is locked in two gears--that is there is too much wear in either the shifter forks, or the shift tower itself. See if you can pull the shifter out--place the tranny in neutral first, then remove the shifter. When it's out, you should be able to see the top of all three shifter forks--they should be lined up together.
Let us know what you find.

edit; too late, same diagnosis

Will the jammed shifter be causing me not to be able to shift her into 2nd as well? hell for all I know I might not have been moving anything but the shifter while 2 gears were jammed. Also (dumb question) if my shifter is jammed, how do I un-jam it. I know how to pop the shifter off and to look for the rectangle, but if I dont have the rectagle I dont know how to get my crap un jammed

if yuo pop the entire cover off...there will be 3shift rails they will make a "rectangle" as descird by the way they are aligned. (everything in neutral)

If it is just a shift rail locked in for some reason, use a big screwdriver to pry it back to where it belongs. Make sure you find out why it jammed in the first place before buttoning it all up, less you have it happen again while you're out on the road somewhere or something

I will bet that you didnt use a gasket between your transmission and transfer case right? The gasket acts as a shim and keeps the proper spacing between the cases so that you dont bind up your transmission shafts, but still properly retain the bearings. If you just use RTV without the gasket you will have the exact problem that you are having.

When I had this problem in my heep, I thought for sure that I had killed the tranny. It turns out the the posative coil wire was getting pinched by the manual clutch linkage and shorting it. Probably not your issue though. So I'm gonna shut up now.
