Big Red

1980 K30 4 speed
This truck has some obvious rust issues. Basically the whole front clip is rotten as well as the floors and rockers. I do however have a set of fenders and front core support from a truck i parted out a while back with the anticipation of repairing this truck.

The Qjet was pretty nasty so I went ahead and rebuilt it a little while back. I'm not certain of the condition of the fuel selector valve or if both tanks hold fuel. I do have the truck running and idling but it seems like the linkage is not set up right as is sticks on fast idle unless I kick the pedal down.

The exhaust on the passenger side is disconnected from the collector on the manifold. Not sure if it just needs a donut or if its rusted out. But its ran all of the way out the back with duals.

Since I sold my white dually, I finally have justification to put some time and money into this thing. I started with cleaning out all of the junk left behind and under the seat, along with about 100 feet of random wires going to broken or missing accessories. The blower motor is on a toggle switch hooked up with speaker wire. :doah:I vacuumed it up best I could and called it good.

I am getting a pretty bad death wobble initiated by hard braking at speed. So I did a quick shake down on the front end and to no surprise found some issues. The drag link ends were totally wasted, all of my leaf spring bushings are rotten and the tires are dry cracking on the bead and between the tread. I didn't see any play on the king pins but I didn't jack the front end up to leverage on the wheel.

I replaced the drag link with a drop unit from rough country. I want to replace the leaf spring bushings but the cost and labor may not be worth it. I know they are going to be seized in there. It's some unknown bastard pack that looks pretty clapped. So I've been pricing out a new set of front springs. I had orded a set of cooper stt pros in 315/75r16 but was slapped in the wee wee when I tried to have them mounted on my stock 6.5" wide wheels. So after humming and hawing I decided to pull the trigger on some 82 series from wheel vintiques. They showed up yesterday and I have to say I am getting really excited to get them mounted! I will eventually get them powder coated white but will rock them in black for now.

Since I had to spend some extra coin on new wheels I decided to buy cheaper tires. I've got a set of 315/75r16 milestar Patagonia M/Ts on the way. Fingers crossed they turn out to be decent tires

I've heard of other people having decent luck with em. Never used em myself yet.

Love the wheels n caps

I figured they were worth a shot and worse case I don't buy another set. Thanks! I am looking forward to having them mounted. It's going to be the only nice thing on the truck lol

Got my wheels and tires mounted up yesterday. And today I cleaned up the rest of the hub caps. I have to wait to pick up a hole saw to modify the caps for the front. Anyone recall the diameter of the hole in a factory dana 1 ton cap?
