So I found a rusty K30 cheap. Not worth saving the sheet metal, so I thought maybe I'll run something like a 39.5" TSL with no lift. Yeah, mucho body hacking, but I want to try it.
Any pics here of something similar?

years ago a friend had a 1/2 ton short bed . 3" body and 4" suspension with string on center of axle hubs and marker to create a arc line to cut the fenders for 44" tires .

but sorry no pics .

Good pics. That is what I was looking for. I find lowrider 4x4's are particularly good in winter for icey highway driving.

I've had some scary rides with wide tires on slippery roads ...tall skinny tires work best in snow ,especially if your plowing..

My truck would take larger tires in the rear OK,being a stepside 44's would probably clear no sweat..up front though, would require some re-working..too bad GM didn't redesign the fenders ,inside & out,so larger tires could go on with not cutting or hammering needed..

I dont like lifted trucks on the street ,I had two I bought with 4+" lift kits and 36" tires, and I took out the lift springs, sold the big tires and rims, and was able to drive them much more comfortably on the street, and plow a lot better with tall skinnier tires..the lift kits were hacked, and consisted of many mismatched parts like springs off some other brand of truck, and home cobbed steering arm blocks, etc,I was scared to drive the trucks the way they were..

I run 39.5" TSL's on my K5 with a 4" lift, so here is my opinion trying to run the same tires with no lift. You could remove the inner fenderwell and trim the outer fender, but I believe the issues would be the doghouse (cab) and core support. You could do a customer core support to give you room there but still have the cab to deal with. I would think it would at least require moving the front axle forward along with the normal trimming and hammering on the cab for clearance.

agreed... my 78 fullsize with 6" and 40's (measuring 38.8) sit on the cab now...

About 5" of lift (56's with axle 2" forward) and 42's
Required a slight trimming of the core support and inner fenders, and major trimming of the outer fenders.
I didn't need to BFH the cab though, probably since the tires are only 14" wide, and my wheels doesn't have excessive offset.

Doing this with no lift would require complete removal of the inner fenders and major trimming of the core support.
But I think it could be done, so I say go for it:waytogo:

This was a 4" TC lift and 40s.
I think I would do at least some sort of minor lift at minimum instead of the factory reverse arched front springs.

I forget to mention that my bump stops are only moved about 1" down.
So clearance wise, it's almost like having a 1" lift...

Edit: But my spring packs are probably 1" thicker (incl. overloads) than stock.
So I guess it's more equivalent to a 2" lift...:doah:

I do have a set of 2 1/2" Tuff Country's in the garage. Maybe I'll use those for the front, just to have straight springs instead of the old sagged reverse arched ones on there now. Thanks for the pics and it gives me some good ideas. I'm going to try and do it without moving the front axle up. Cab cutting won't be an issue if needed.

big tires no lift

I ran a 38-11-16 bogger on a stock 6 inch wide wheel with added springs on front just to make them level and only bfh on the fenders. Truck also had a big block so not a lot of travel before the bumps. sure was fun though

Aw, no pics?

If you dig up my pictures of Big Ugly I had 38x11's on a '86 K30 with 1" of front lift and cutting.
