Big Tires On An Ex-Military Dually?

I have a 1984 ex-military one ton 4-wheel drive, Dana 60 front, Dana 70HD dually rear. When it comes to wheels, I’m really having a difficult time trying to figure out how to get bigger tires on it.

Bigger tires on 6-inch dually rims doesn't seem possible, it has 33" Buckshots now and they are tight together.

Initially I thought Hummer H1 wheels were the way to go, they are supposed to bolt right on and I could do away with the rear duals and go single rear wheel. But the more reading I do, the more problems there seem to be, like hassles installing run-flats, 16.5 rim size going the way of the Dodo, limited tire availability, balancing, etc.

Then I thought since the 8-stud Hummer lug pattern and wheel offset match up with my dually axles, why couldn’t I just buy some 17” Cepek H1 aluminum wheels? Seems they would fit and it would enable me to go with single rear wheels and have more tire sizes available, but I’m guessing the problem would be load rating (not strong enough for a one ton and a trailer).

Any ideas?

If I were you I would get a spacer for the rear and get the rims widened to 8". Then you can run the tires you want.

How big do you want to go? Getting bigger tires to fit on the stock wheels is no big deal, just need a small spacer on the rear.

I'd like to run at least 37s and the rear dually rims seem pretty skinny, I think they're about 6" wide. I think I read somewhere that an 8" rim is minimum for 37" tires (10 is recommended)?

Get some stock 16.5 x 9 Chevy dually wheels, then run a small spacer 1/4" that's what I have on the rear of my dually.....running 37x12.5x16.5 hummer tire's......

do you have any pics of these 16.5x 9 dually wheels?

i am going to put 37s on the dually and use 16.5x6 stock wheels with a large spacer. im running 305's right now with a 2 inch spacer and they are abotu .5 inch away frm each other.

If IIRC they are just stock 16.5 chevy dually wheel....picked up at local tire shop $20 for 4..... I can take a couple of pics tomorrow...
