I am looking for brake upgrade help .

the single master on firewall/and under cab with vac booster needs to go its all jacked up .

looking to swap in hydroboost . axles are drum/drum with 2 wheel cyl per drum location . total of 8 .

any help would be great .

and I have a few hydroboost units from our ck30 trucks . thinking maybe I can swap one in ? ? ? got to look under dash yet .

Sorry im no help, brother. But when i read the post, it brought back great memories! My dad bought his c60 new back in 1973. I was 8 years old.lol the one thing i remember most was NO power steering.backing in a driveway when i was older was the worst.

few pics of what I am working on .

and yes that's YELLOW but going black to match the rest of the trucks . boom to stay yellow .

82 c60 366/4speed converted to 4x4 from original 4x4 converted 1970 c60 gmc305v6/4speed.

rollin on 39" tall tires 8.25x20 size. crazy deep gears no speed racer.

sitting next to my k30 with 3" springs 2" body and 35" tires looks small now over the c60 truck .

I love medium duty trucks. I like the yellow. I would think the cab would be same as a regular pickup and you would just have to do some trial and error on finding the right mc. Try searching to see what the newest c60 they made and what it had for brakes. Maybe also you could adapt a hydro boost setup off another medium duty with similar brakes at the wheel ends.

very manly looking rig....

My dads looked the same but 2wheel and it was a dump truck.so an MC from a 80 pick up would not work? From what i remember, i cant tell there is any difference...shy of yours being 4x4..

Did a little research for you since I'm sitting at the airport waiting. According to rock auto it looks like there is a lot of brake options for your truck and other c60s. I'd figure out exactly what you have first and see what you can upgrade to after that. There looks to be some factory hydro boost options I think but it's gonna either take some time to do a lot of research on what will work or some custom fab work.

well I can fab / rework stuff . . . . and I have a junk cab from a c-10 if I reed the brake mount plate that's on the firewall if I cant rework the one in the c60 .

this truck wont get used much . . . but it will be made safe .

We have a 1988 c60 it has disk brakes front and back.

I can take a pic of the brake system under the hood if you like?

What front axle is under yours...its cool!

from what I have found on searches there a eaton based axle for the parts sold to napco and napco built the axle the way they wanted .

there both 3rd member style / bolt on covers also . front is ball/socket closed knuckle . there both drum brake axles . and 2wd axles were also both drum brake /

the cool part is the GIANT brass dial warn locking hubs .

haven't verified yet not sure I can with out tear down the gear ratio . . . been reading mid 6.xx to low 7.xx range .

told the old truck the axles from topped out about 45mph .

Just being curious as I load the crookpot with chicken, but could those axles have the ends knocked off and a standard "C" and open knuckle be put in its place? I imagine the axle shafts would be difficult as well. But....

I'm not sure those old Neapco axles are "weak" due to being closed knuckles,I'm sure they must be beefy enough for GM to have put them in C-60's they knew would likely be used in extreme applications, hauling lots of weight in wreckers,or logging trucks,etc....

I had a closed knuckle 1/2 ton 6 lugger front in my '72 Chevelle Wagon that was sitting on a stock '69 K-10 Suburban chassis, though I never whaled on it off road, the person I sold it to did,and failed to break it..
I think they aren't as bad as people make them out to be,but maybe out in the desert terrain they break easier ?..

I feel the enclosed u-joint is a good idea, running them in an oil bath (though the seals liked to leak, and it does suck to change them--no worse than pulling a spindle off an open knuckle imo--)..at least you wont have u-joints getting the grease washed out or exposed to grit like open knuckles..

True. But being able to use 60 outers for example, would be awesome simply for the steering parts and stuff like bearings and brakes. Something smaller, like a CC or Suburban wouldn't need the massive equipment a 60 does. May be a nifty idea for someone.

you ever try and find these axles ? ?

and also the ratio is high 6.xx to low 7.00 . the old truck topped out about 45mph I was told . both old/new 4 speed trucks . and 39" tall tires .

I imagine there is only a handful of those trucks made in 4x4 versions, usually special ordered by Forestry Service or power companies, logging operations,towing,etc..it probably would suck to find a complete useable one..

Only one I've seen locally was a 70's Dodge D-500 4x4 that was a forestry service truck, and it was in tough shape, rotted and ratty--guy wanted 1500 bucks for it--had a 318 2 bbl out of a Chrysler Cordoba, top speed was like 50 mph at 5000 rpms he said....

That thing is awesome! I wouldn't change a thing....especially yellow to black. Black shows way too many body inperfections and is a bitch to keep clean. Yellow hides everything. As far as brakes, keep you eyes pealed for an old Uhaul GMC C6500. They have the brake upgrades you would be looking for.

Ugly 1984 7000 GMC dump
8.2 Detroit/ 5-2 transmission.

Had it since 93, for sale now because the bed is about to rust off of it; they want 7500 to build a new one!

Best memories of my childhood were made in this truck!!

so I called around today and looks like hydroboost is a no go for drum/drum stuff. said the high psi of hydroboost and drum/drum could make for crazy diving in braking like pulling 1 side or other real hard .

but the places did say for my need I should be real good swapping on a vac/master from reg pickup and maybe just adjust the front pressure down for the difference in disc/drum master ... unless I can find a master for drum/drum and volume.

also went to the local machine shop guy I know and we punched the steering arm on the axle out to take the bigger 82 drag link end and she fit perfectly now .
