Bigblock / Smallblock

The sb at about 550 sounds right for a stock long block, 660 for a big block it would be nice find me one so I can put in! The last thing I did needing advance adapter help on when I called the had know clue to what I needed even asked me to call back when I got the ansser, But then I was putting a NV4500 BEHIND A CHEVY SB !!! Buat as I was not useing there bellhousing (junk) to do it I was useing stock GW parts they were lost. So yea I beleave every thing they say but then there the only game in town on most things too!

I understand the jeep thing I drive a BLAZER!!

A stock BBC vs stock SBC, 150lbs difference. Swap an AL intake and tube headers onto that BBC and it weighs the same. Swap AL heads on and you are lighter by 50lbs.

And BTW, ONLY bore/stroke affect displacement. Head gaskets affect combustion chamber size only.

And my 454 weighed in at 650lbs, fully decked out with AL intake and tube headers, alternator, waterpump, powersteering, and all bracketry.

I agree with that statement.

I have weighed my 454, and it came to 653 lbs, IIRC, with AL intake and PS, water pump, and brackets. This was a complete engine 10 minutes before installation.

My engine, now with AL heads, weighs less than a stock small block. I hate when people try to post BS.

These were both long blocks (heads included) but I didn't ask about the manifolds. Lets say they were weighed without the manifolds. If thats the case, I don't see much of a difference there (maybe 10-20lbs). Most always go with headers and alum. intakes anyway. Waterpumps are almost the same and there's hardly any difference on the acc. brackets. The dampner may be a little more for a BB (3-5lbs). A larger radiator for a BB is a must so there's another 2 gallons of antifreeze (5lbs). I still don't see over 150lbs when it's fully installed in the vehicle.

Here's an engine weight link. Check out the weight of the Cadilac V-16 built in 1931!

Squashboy,
I hope you're not refering to me as posting BS. Read my posts, I never claimed that I knew how heavy they are. I only claimed that the difference feels substantial. All things being equal: two equally equiped longblocks, the big block will ALWAYS be heavier.
As for you hating it when people post BS; stop your whinning. If you're looking for a place to whine try oprah.com.

Talldogg had it right till he did the paren thing.
displacement is just bore and stroke.
Heads and head gaskets effect CR but have ZERO to do with displacement.
Displament has 3 factors.
Number of cylinders
Bore (diameter of piston)
Stroke (double the crank throw=distance crank rod journal centerline is from crank main journal centerline x2)

displacemant is Pi * (piston radius squared)* stroke * number of pistons.
For a 8 cylinder 4 " bore diameter that isx almost exactly 100 cid/ inch stroke
note rod length and head gasket are NOT in the equation.

Block size determines big or small block not displacement
Chevy small blocks are one size and big blocks are another.

Just like fords but ford cheats a little
The 351 is actually taller with slightly wider apart cylinder banks requireing a wider intake then other small blocks like 289 302

I'll admit when I'm wrong, and I was wrong about that, it was early and I was typing faster than I should have. But you be sympathetic for me, pleeeese! I saw your picture on your website, and all I can say is, Hey at least I get laid!
It's mean, but you shouldn't call somebody's attempt to help/inform someone BS, I hope you get the picture.

Hey Real Squash,
I want to apologize for the flame. I snapped, and I know I shouldn't have. I just couldn't help it, it's a guy thing, sometimes our balls are bigger than our brains. Take it easy.
