Looking for information on biggest tire and wheel to fit a stock 2WD suburban? And some pictures if you have them?

I'm going to keep about the stock size tire up front and want to get as big as possible for rear without rubbing and cutting. Old Skool skinny front Fat back tire look! :eek1:

here's some information I got from the specilty section...

Come on, there's got to be some pictures out there! Or am I the only one with a 2WD?

There's a 30 page thread that's a sticky full of BIG TIRE 4X4s!!!

That probably answers my question as to size. I don't want to go that tall, 32 is way taller than I want to go for a 2wd street rig. And if a 10.50 clears that tall I can probably get by even wider with a low profile street tire. Still surprised no one wants to show off their rig with pictures...

This was a 35 in the back, I never measured the actual height, nor did I ever drive it

i thought you wanted a big tire in the back.i didnt know you wanted to do a wide tire not tall tire.in that case with a low pro tire, you could go 12.5 wide on a smaller say 60 series tire.ive seen 20 inch rim on a low pro tire and no rubbing.i think rim was 10 inch wide rim.

I have 33x12.50's on my 2x ...needed some minor trimming. I'll get pics for ya this weekend buddy.:waytogo:

I had 33x12.50r15s on my stock 4x4.......I'm assuming the rear suspension would be the same!

The fronts did rub the rear of the front fender but I only drove it lightly until we did the lift. Since you are going to run a smaller tire in the front for that specific rake look then I see no problem with running a 33 or 35 in the rear with 10" wide rims and 12.5" tires!! I had plenty of room to fit a 35 in the rear.

My rims are 15x10s with a 4" backspacing :D

Here's with the stock suspension:

Just by the looks of your truck I think the 2WD is a little lower. But by comparing these pictures I think I am going to have to run a taller tire than I had in mind or it's going to look funny as in goofy, not ha ha. the wheel well is just to big looking to run a 295x60-15 tire which is about 27 inches tall, same as the stock 235x75-15 tires that comes stock on it. And I do not want to lower it, for me it's just about right, actually a little to low when I have a hitch on it for towing.

I didn't want to go with a bigger wheel as in 18 or 20 inch as they get very expensive for the wheel and tire as compared to buying 15 inch wheels and tires. I'll have to check prices for a 16 again which were higher than a 15 last I looked. But I think a 16 would help the looks and fill the wheel well.

for driving and handling and braking the stock 235x75-15 tires are just fine and I think will look good up front even on a 16 wheel. But I want that big fat tire, fill the wheel well look on the back. Maybe even side pipes...

I can adjust/tune the EFI for a bigger tire and know how to set the VSSB/DRAC for accurate speedometer reading so that's not an issue. Not sure how having taller tires on rear than front will effect the antilock brakes? I think on this truck the antilock brakes only have control of rear wheels, if so that will be OK too!

295/60/15's and your stockers are 29" not 27". 285/70/15's are 31" tall and 11.5" section width. as for pricing, in the last 2 years I have bought 1 set of 33x12.5x15 tires on 10" aluminum summit nomads, $1500. 1 set of 305/70/17's on 17x9 aluminum moto metal skulls, $1500. and 1 set of 275/55/20's on 20x9 aluminum driv moonshines, $1600. pricing is not really that different if you shop around. I had a pair of 31x10.5x15s on my 2wd 87 for a short while. I had air shocks on mine and kept it at about 2" higher than stock-sag also though. got rid of them due to wear not rubbing.

Cool! Thanks!

Of course what you really need with a bigger rear tire is a gear swap....

What year is the truck? I thought you could swap speedo gears up until 89 or 90.

It's the one in my sig, 1990 Suburban 5.7L auto 2WD. Yup your right! But I've got that covered to with a 12 bolt rear axle with 3:73 gears I am installing in place of the stock 10 bolt which I beleive has 3;54 gears? I'd have to look it up on the truck again. This would have been an improvement in towing but with taller tires it will probably just keep me the same.

I do believe this is the pick of my 31x10.5x15's on my 2wd. I know for a fact that the tires on the front are 235/75/15's. backs are definately larger. they are on 8" wheels

edit: I could have went 2" wider withno issues. But any more would have required rolling the top fender lip to prevent tire damage.

Thanks! I have seen these same wheels that come stock on 2WD in 8 inch which is what mine has and for some reason there are a 6 inch version? Look identical except the chrome beauty ring is smaller...

There has got to be some more pictures and ideas of skinny front, wide rear available?
