Billet Aluminum front spring crossmember and steering arm

Most cars have aluminum knuckles. I know mine has them at all 4 corners. So is the steering rack and the engine support brackets.

I'm talking about making 10b/D44 knuckles out of 7075 aluminum. Some folks on here would have a sh!t hemorrhage :haha:

What caused this 6.9 million dollar disaster ????

a small aluminum nut designed to hold the fuel pipe fitting in place failed due to subsurface corrosion not visible to the naked eye.

That's right ! A failed ALUMINUM PART......sub surface corrosion no less

I guess they should have made the whole rocket out of steel.

I wonder how the extra weight would affect the rocket's performance...

awww jeez let it go guys, you have killed this guy's thread! I think we need some video of the crewcab getting airborne and surviving the landing to quiet the naysayers

I dunno, this video pretty much sums up this thread...

I have seen his crew cab live and in person and I was very impressed.
My dad told me about the Burb when he did the exhuast. I tried getting over there to see it before you came and got it, but wasn't able too. They said it was built very good. How did it do in Moab?

Mkay. Can we now move on to the really important questions in material sciences, like why has nobody built a Kevlar monocoque for 'wheeling? If the F1 guys can do it...:D

Oh, and don't these guys also build A-arms from Kevlar or carbon fiber?
Ok I'll bite, what the hell is a monocoque?

Ok I'll bite, what the hell is a monocoque?

Monocoque, from the French for single (mono) and shell (coque), is a construction technique that supports structural load by using an object's external skin as opposed to using an internal frame or truss that is then covered with a non-load-bearing skin. Monocoque construction was first widely used in aircraft in the 1930s.
Structural skin is another term for the same concept.
Unibody, or unitary construction, is a related construction technique for automobiles in which the body is integrated into a single unit with the chassis rather than having a separate body-on-frame. The welded "Unit Body" is the predominant automobile construction technology today.
