Well since my trucks finanlly starting to become the vehicle that I want it to be, I thought, why not make a thread

But first some background.
started off with a 1970 Chevy k20,
had a 496/350/203/3/4tons w/4.56 locked fr/rr with 35's
put a 6" lift with 3" body and rocked that for a few years till I moved away to college.

blew up the th350s case so I swapped in a 4speed along with some 38s

after awhile, it got to the point that the long bed was a bit too long, so I made a deal with my dad and got this *cough gem
phonepics060.jpg

it was a 1971 GMC Jimmy that had been sitting in the snow for 7-8 years
it had a "stock car" 350/th350 that didnt work, and d44/12bolt with 3.08s

since none of the stuff on it was worth keeping I got rid of it all but the engine
bought one eaton h052 with 4.56s

PIC-0121.jpg

swapped in a trusted sm465
PIC-0169.jpg

moved it to my dads place
swapped in a spare D44 that i had in storage to get it rolling
DSC00157.jpg

painted it a few times...couldnt come to a color that I liked enough to leave
PIC-0205.jpg

swapped the 6" from the 70 to the 71 along with the 38s

moved to a house with a garage...my own garage!
then the real fun began:woot::thumb:
popped some rollers on and into the man cave it went

bite the bullet and bought a mid 80's dodge D60 with 4.56s for the whopping price of $650

did some dealing with a buddy of mine for some srw dodge external hubs
cleaned and inspected the 60, and painted it.

did the 52" swap
used the bracket off a mid 70s k5 along with the core support bracket and some of Kurts adj. hangers

did a shackle flip in the back with some 56's flipped around to gain 4" of wheelbase

more to later...

up next

I forgot to mention somewhere between getting the lift in and getting it over to my apartments, I went and bought another eaton h052 from a '72 chevy but lucked out and got one that already had 9/16" wheel studs and was wider than the previous 63" wms eaton that I had in there.

back on track, I went and ordered up the same crossover arms as NorCal Chris did, which for the price, I couldnt pass up

got my drag link welder up, installed and went for a test run.

now for the front driveshaft, I needed a conversion joint at the axle end.
my stock shaft used a 1310 but the front yoke on the 60 had a 7260 series ujoint and what a pain it was to find the right one.
so knowing that i didnt want to have to shell out $25 for another one if it broke in the future, I decided to pick up a 1350 series yoke just in case

now that brings us up to date or close to it at least.
plans for now are to work out the kinks...which today's trip to Prairie city revealed to be many(clutch problems, traction problems, popping cv on front shaft, and stalling problems to name a few), and work on getting my Detroit in the rear, rock sliders to replace my non existent rocker panels, bumpers fr/rr, maybe hydro assist and most importantly...a roll cage!

Went wheeling today with Mike (The Beast_88K5) at Prairie City

Problems with my clutch and lack of traction made it to be a very frustrating day but somehow managed to have fun

Me on the some rock....it was at this point that my truck decided to just randomly die:confused:

Gotta love the look of a sexy first gen
IMG_1318.jpg

"Attempted" the stair case...but went nowhere fast cuz of traction...again...my Detroit would help with this issue:whistle:
IMG_1327.jpg

Mike showing what I could do IF i had some type of traction aid :haha:

I also "attempted" another obstacle that insisted on halting me in my tracks and resulted in having mike tug me out backwards:thumb:

Ill try and see if Mike has any videos of it...or anything

Okay.....

So my fargin' camera ate the video, of you crawling the hill.
This means we needs to get that Detroit in there, and go wheelin', again!

:D

Nice looking Jimmy you got there:waytogo: Iv always liked the 67-72 body styles, espiecially the GMC front. Try not to tear it up to bad!:D

Good times....

Hahah Hell yeah...installing it got quite....interesting to say the least.
Mike was a HUGE help putting this thing in!!!
I CANT wait to try it out....so Chris, Mike....next thursdsy!!!!
Its on!!!!

So since Mine and Mikes adventure with my detroit I figured it was time to get a cage going for this thing...you know the whole saftey first deal.
So I hit up NorcalKid about it old cage since he got a new one. Figured it was a good start and it has been.
Did some "maintance" and went to install it...removing the top got quite "interesting"...Ill just say that there were 4x4 blocks, some straps and my gfs frontier involved.
So anyways, got the top off, went to put the cage it and the cage didnt fit past to windshield frame...tooo damn wide. Played around with multiple ideas to remedy the situation but ultimately decided to get new A pillar bars bent up.
So after one hell of an experience, Im once again cageless...for now.
But I dont mind cuz Im going wheeling tm!!!:woot:

Mmmm...topless:thumb:
