Black Betty - Formerly Blaze the Monster Machine

1984 K5 Project for Dad and kids
Also needed a new yoke because the old one was scored so bad along the seal it was leaking. New yoke came with different u joint so had to order 1350 to 1410 u joint to match the driveshaft. But everything is back together and once the u joint arrives Tuesday I can pick it up.

Just to keep this thread up to date. Got the truck back from gears and it was puking fluid from the rear breather and there was a horrible sound coming from the drivetrain when I eased off the throttle. Took it back and it was diagnosed as the rear end being over filled from the pinion pointing down and the sound was the joints being at awful angles. Put a 6* shim in the rear and dropped the trans mount an inch and it helped the noise a good amount and the rear didn’t puke any fluid. They also noticed a crack in the transfer case adapter where it was welded previously. Got a replacement ordered and yanked the transfer case today. Now I’m contemplating getting it rebuilt while it’s out and possibly new driveshafts. More than likely I’ll just throw it in with new bushings and run it for a while as I’m way over extended on my budget trying to fix everything this year. Still need to replace motor mounts as well.

Since the wife got Covid and we are quarantined, decided to waste a little time and weld up the last few joints on my exhaust that were leaking. Ignore the lumpy ones. Those were with my old welder. My new welder makes prettier ones but I’m not a pretty welder haha. Also ignore the trail of transmission fluid. Dang adapter keeps dripping. Thought I had gotten it all dried up but I was obviously wrong.

Did some pressure washing today. Of course nothing is cheap on this truck and my 18yr old washer died on me so I had to buy a new one. Finally starting to get over the vids. Stuff kicked my ass pretty good. Kids go back to school next week but I have to stay home until Wednesday (policy) so I’m going to hopefully start reassembling this thing.

I gotta tell you my experience with those DIY4X mounts.
When I was mocking up my cradle for the doubler, the engine was bolted to the mounts, and the rest of the drivetrain was supported temporarily by a jack and milkcrate w plywood on top of it. Not a good idea as the jack rolled out of position and the doubler dropped several inches and it was all supported by those two engine mounts. I was amazed it didn’t break the block with all that weight hanging back there. The mounts held everything and suffer no damage.

My good buddy beer convinced me to buy a new intake and volcano from @folkenheath so that’ll be going on soon. It’s weird not having anything to fix or wrench on on this truck so I figured why not haha.

Probably not. I spent driveshaft money on the intake because power is way more fun than driveshafts. And my daughter started tee ball this weekend and it runs through May so that's what my weekends are for now.

Got about 20mins outside while one of the kiddos slept. Dual 4ohm coils wired down to 2 ohms. Amp is 2 ohm stable in stereo and is rated at 800w max per channel. Speakers are 500w max per so there is plenty of head room. Probably could have gone a little larger speaker but this should give me some solid sound.
