Black Betty - Formerly Blaze the Monster Machine

1984 K5 Project for Dad and kids
Finally in. I’m still going to have to space the transfer case down an inch to get the angles half way decent but at least it’s in. Need to add another clamp to my amp power wire as it’s resting right on the flange now but that’s easy. Need to weld up the h-pipe also until I can get it to a shop. Is there a reason my old speedo gear won’t fit in the new housing? I don’t use the speedo but just curious if there are different thicknesses. Any reason I can’t fill this full of silicone and stick it in?

Finally done. As long as it holds fluid all night I’ll be driving it tomorrow. Only took me 7 weeks. Think I’ll call a few shops to do the spring perches. I need a break.

Gutted mine and filled it with silicone years ago when I Put in a DIY4X dash and gps Speedo. No leaks leaks yet.

Well good and bad news. Good news is we just took it on a little 20 mile round trip and it didn't blow up. Bad news is I pulled a chick move and left the parking brake on for half and smoked a drum and the transfer case puked fluid from the breather. I fixed one problem. I think the second problem is I overfilled the case. At least I hope.

So freely running out of the fill hole is bad then huh? I think I got 3 qts in it last night. Definitely didn’t take as much to fill as it did previously but I chalked that up to it missing 4.5” of tail shaft now. I had drained it all into a reservoir before I tore it apart since it was new fluid and was pumping that back in to it.

I only got a little over 2 quarts in my sye on my 241 before it was coming out the fill hole.

Looks like my 241 sye is shorter than a 208. You have a auto or manual. If auto it may have come from there via a bad input seal on the 208. When I took
my 208 out, it had been sitting unmoved for awhile, got about 5 quarts out.

Auto. I’ll be pissed if it’s a bad seal. I do not want to yank this thing again. Guess I’ll find out this evening when I yank the fill plug.

Just went and checked and it’s sitting just below the bottom of the fill plug now. So it was either over filled and spit it out or something else. Guess I need to go for another test drive to find out.

Bad day in the shop beats a good day in the office.

Yes. Scat parts are from Heath. 383. It was dropped off at the machine shop last week. Machinist needed it to check deck heights between the 4 corner pistons to make sure he got it zero decked accordingly. Hopefully I’ll have it back in the next couple of weeks. And then need to save money for cam and heads.

After driving it for a while I had forgotten the assault on your senses the exhaust was. So I swapped the dynomax bullets for some Thrush Turbo’s. It quieted it way down.

Drove it around today. It’s acted a little funny. Randomly died while I was doing 50mph earlier today. Popped it in neutral but I couldn’t turn the key. Had to stop and put it in park and then it took a second to fire back up and puked some smoke out. Parked it when I got home and mowed the yard and showered before heading out again and it did not want to start. Took me a dozen cranks before it finally started. Drove it 10-12 miles at 55-65mph and no issues. Truck has mostly set since the beginning of February so I’m hoping it’s just burning off some crap. I filled it up this morning and threw some fuel cleaner in there.

Took what I thought was a funny picture. Hunk of junk looks like it belongs in the weeds haha.
