Black Betty - Formerly Blaze the Monster Machine

1984 K5 Project for Dad and kids
Crossmember is the one that came with the blazer so assuming it’s original. Don’t think there is a tall and short foot option for a 4L80E transmission. At least not that I’ve found. I’ll probably get around the spacers when I get around to the crossmember. I never ran them on my last k5 and never had an issue with the bolts loosening up.

Huh, well, I ain't no help then..
:dunno:

I’m just happy the dang thing is in. Now to fight the transfer case in place. I really don’t want to run a body lift. Truck is a pain to get in and out of the garage as is. Need to get this in soon though so I can get the driveshafts redone.

Looks like I’m gonna need a 1/8”-3/16” spacer between the converter and flex plate to get the spacing on that correct. Nothing a washer or two won’t fix.

Next big purchase will be a GM TBI tank, sending unit, and fuel line.

Measure the washers with a caliper, many washers are different thicknesses, try to get 3 the same. You are shooting for ~1/8" clearance correct?

Cross member is the same for all trucks.
It goes on top in the 1 ton trucks below on 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton

I’m trying to get it running by Christmas. Maybe spring time next year it’ll be on the trails. How’s your rig running?

Good last time I drove it haha…it’s been sitting in the garage for to long…I’m moving to a new dork schedule so I should have more time to plan some trips…Id love to do a spring ride somewhere!!!

Also bout to start another project with my dad…it’s an 88 jimmy I believe…thinking bout making a nice driver with a 5.3 swap…I’ll prob do a build page on our progress

Headers could be hung? BBQ goes on patio. Vacuum in shop. You can ship the vise and stand to me, I am sure another member will speak up for the drill press. Shop tolls and ppe in cupboard, not what the tubing is spare tire mount? Not a bad mess at all.

Gotta buy bolts for the headers. Tools are staying. The tubing is the diy4x doors. There’s also power steering pump, alternator, big ass winch, driveshafts. The black stone I’m putting on the outdoor kitchen when I start that build this winter.

Not a real exciting update but making progress. Got the valve covers bolted on. Reordered header bolts 3 times cause I can’t read a tape measure but those will go on tomorrow or next day. Torque converter is bolted to the flex plate.

Was researching mounting points for the Holley ecu and stumbled across the factory build sheet.

ECU is going to fit nicely in the glovebox.
