Black Betty - Formerly Blaze the Monster Machine

1984 K5 Project for Dad and kids
For what it’s worth, I’m using that style of serpentine brackets on my 454 and I don’t have any bracket on the back of the pump. My pump just uses the bolts that are under the pulley.

Cooling system is done. Yes I know I need a new upper radiator mount. No, I don’t care the shroud isn’t sealed. This will get me running though. IMG_1326.jpeg

If you are wondering why the red bushings, I somehow lost the brand new ones I bought a few years ago so I had to reorder and all they had in stock was red. Yes it drives me nuts but again, it gets me running. Plus, red means race truck. IMG_1325.jpeg

It's looking good!

And I agree it will get you running, but with the fan that far out of the shroud and the large gap in front of the shroud it will probably get too hot.

You can probably order the power steering pressure hose from that same vehicle as the accessory drive and it should be a direct install I would guess...

Does this mean you will be ready for Hidden Falls next spring?!? My buddy has his trans in the shop but is ready to go wheel. I haven’t touched mine other than a wash after Moab. Glad to see someone is making progress!

Transmission cooler is installed and plumbed. Think I’m going to add some support up top for it so it doesn’t vibrate itself to death.

Found the stock radiator mounts for the small block radiator I’ve got. Gotta grab my nut sert kit from dad and then get those installed and that’ll help fix the gap between the shroud and radiator.

Pulled some more wires out and got rid of a couple more boxes of stuff.

Question for those with the Holley terminator, where and or how did you run the harnesses into the cab? These things are rather large and I’d like to avoid drilling a 3” hole in my firewall if possible. Wiring is my next big hurdle.

I drill a 2" hole and use a big flexible grommet. Sometimes you can reuse the factory grommet in the firewall from the HVAC and enlarge the opening in the grommet itself, not the firewall. It depends on what else is running through there.

I try to keep the CDI box wires not going through the same hole as the ECU wires if you mount them both under the dash.

Check out the Seals It two piece seals.

I used one of them to mount the Pro Flo ecu under the dash.

Forgot to order the grommets but this is my last Friday to make progress so I pulled the wires into the cab and got a temp oil pressure gauge setup. I’ll buy the $163 sensor for the Holley system once I’m happy with everything. Was going to do the plugs and wires today but the insulating boots I bought for the wires don’t fit. The wire ring is like 1/16” to small. Going to return them and see if I can find some slightly larger ones. Then just a fused relay block for all the switched circuits, terminate, fluids, and uh ya. Should be time to turn the key and see what happens.

They're supposed to be really tight. Let the boots sit in hot water. Then apply a light soapy water solution to small end when you are putting on wire
