Well I was gonna get some more tubes put in on the top of the cage tonight, paint the top and push he back up through the floor to finish the lower stuff and get started on the seat supports but it started raining.
Last night I tried taking the windshield out to finish up some welds and busted it in about 30 seconds. Guess I'm gonna have to be more carefull next time. Good thing is they're only $28 at pullapart. Does anyone know if they make a plexiglass one for out trucks? That would be the shizzit...
I sure am proud of my first time bender work. Much cooler going through the dash than some of the other cages ive seen. And the rear hoop is about perfect with about just enough room to slide your finger behind it all the way around. not so proud of how my welds look but trying to make nice welds in tight spaces isn't easy for a beginner. All I could think about was how many welding articles I've read that stress building a million things before you weld roll cages. lol. Shes burned in good, just not pretty.
Should be easy from here on out cause I dont think I'll need to do anymore bending. Straight pieces are cake..

nice start really makes you appreciate nice welds on cages and such when you see how much talent and practice it takes to get there.
Maybe I'm missing something (and I'm sure I'l be corrected if I am) but that cage seems a bit low, like right-across-your-eyeline low.

Thanks Ben. In the one picture it just looked like the tube was bolted to the floor on the passenger side over there. Nevermind. 
I know someone makes a lexan windshield for our trucks, can't think of the name though

Not often do I find myself reading every post through any forums and I couldn't put this one down. Drink you rock it out bro! My finger on my scroller almost couldn't move down the page fast enough to sooth my hunger for more pics, soo impressed.

Don't wanna double up the sappiness, but you made my whole last 3 years of owning my CHEVY.
Just a question...
When you found that heap in the field, did your creative and mechanical juices overpower you to build this monster or have you had previous experience with another project that inspired your work here...?
or did an angels come down from the heavens and sit on your shoulder and say "drinksalil, if you build it they will come"?!!
Or even did satan and his band of demons rise up from the hells of the earth and say "drinkalil, build this shizzle or we willl take your soul"....?
I have been inspired to like... follow in the footsteps of the greater warrior, however I lack skillz, deep pockets and jedi powers unlike you.

Well, growing up I wanted one of these trucks for my first vehicle SO bad but it didn't work out that way and I ended up buying a 88 cherokee with a bad motor and putting a new motor in it ( and about 4 transmissions over its lifespan). I was only 16 then and my friends told me i'd never get it running but I did. That project and working on 4wheelers growing up gave me the confidence to tackle this project. I'm the type that doesn't like to be told I can't do something.
I got hooked with wheelin from growin up on a farm, racing MX, and having a jeep as my first vehicle so this rig is just an evolution of my hobby. its also my creative outlet. I dont liike all the money it costs but I really like building it MY way and seeing it come together.
The inspiration for the project came when I took in a 82 3/4 ton truck on trade (as well as another car, a plow and a 4wheeler) for my bike. The frame was broke, it was really rusty, bald tires, 6" lift w/ 35's. It was a pile of junk but seeing how I always wanted one of those trucks it inspired me. I was originaly make it a mud truck but after moving south there wasn't any real mud and changed the build up a bit for rocks. Its takin me so long to finish it I allready wanna build a buggy with rockwells and a big block. Its hard to keep up with some of the boys down here in the south. When I started buildin my rig the plan was making almost Top Truck Challenge worthy, but look at the rigs competing now!

whens a few weeks? I was gonna try to take it up to Golden Mt. in Tenn. for our GTR run the first weekend in sept. I think that will be its first trip cause I dont have a tow rig/trailer.
My friends told me the same thing when I brought home my broke ass k5 on my 16th birthday. Never would have learned as much if I got a decent running truck

aug 15-17th... Sorry I havent crawled up under the k5 yet to measure the front driveshaft. I am sitting on my couch with my right leg above my head... the knee is a little sore, but the drugs are good. 3 hours worth of surgery yesterday.

I need some drugs that make it cooler outside so I have ambition to work on the truck. lol. I dont think I'll make that run. I gotta travel to texas that weekend anyhow for work and then its crunch time to get finished when I get back. I might be pullin some hours like you were to get ready for save tellico.

Well heres some more pics. I ordered a driveshaft up from carolina driveline. 1410 at the D60, 1350 at the tranny (dont have 32 spline output for np205 yet) using a superflex joint at the transfer case. 12" of slip. Waiting on some tabs to make the seat mounts. Still need to tie the roll cage into the frame. 14.5" travel bilsteins are just a tad too long for the ford towers. I need just a little bit more uptravel but I have the towers mounted about as high as I could get them without modifying them more. Also made a "bed" for the rear
