Blazer Bash 2009

Moab-bound on Saturday, 4/25/09.
Stop in Mexican Hat. Exploration/Natural Bridges etc on Sunday.
Hotel Rock trail starting from Blanding on Monday.
Lockhart Basin on Tuesday.
...

Quick update:

Hotel Rock on Monday and Lockhart Basin yesterday were awesome.

Hotel Rock trail is a climb out of Comb's Wash with enough obstacles to keep your attention, and a cool one called Camelback. Hotel Rock itself has a series of ancient cliff dwellings on the east side, with a magnificent view over the land - you can see most of Comb's Ridge (which is some 80+ miles long...).

The scenery in Lockhart Basin is just marvellous. The offcamber descent in Lockhart was more washed out, but that revealed some more rocks, and in some way it was a little easier to pick your way down. Being able to steer the truck is awesome...;)

Broke a rear axle hard brake line at the flare fitting  - that took some time to repair, but brakes were back to working order Monday morning - and I needed them on the Hotel Rock trail....

The pic below is from Camelback on the Hotel Rock trail...

Me and the wife may come down but it's up in the air right now. Is there any hotels or campsights that will have vacancies without a reservation or on short notice?

Depends on what else is going on at the time... here's a list of events; I don't see anything coincide with the 'Bash, but you may want to look some more...

Just to warm everyone's appetite, here's a little video from one of my 'Cruiser 'wheeling buddies; it shows WipeOut Hill last week:
My turn came at ~5:50; as usual on these descents, it feels as if you're driving straight into the ground.

not trying to be a naysayer or anything but is that supposed to be like really extreme?

No one said that's an extreme trail. It's a single-obstacle trail that can be safely done in a full-bodied truck.

If that has you worried about your testosterone points ;), go on some of the other trails in Moab - there's plenty to chose from :D.

It never looks like a big deal on video but when you are actually there it's amuch different experience. I haven't been on that particluar trail but I'm sure it's much steeper than it looks.

I will second that. When look back at video, I think "man it was much more harry than it looks on a 2D screen".

All I have to say on the subject is congrats to Pauly. I missed BB06 for the same reason. :waytogo:

Thanks Scott . Looks like I will DEFINITELY miss this years event . I just can't leave her here with TWINS coming and use up vacation days I sure can use for prenatal care .

Everyone have a blast  And send hand me down baby stuff back with Jason4x4 :wink1:

well i was just curious. i know moab is supposed to have a lot of cool chit but i just dont want to make the long a$$ trip if its just a bunch of downward grades. i would enjoy going up that obstacle in the video though:D

Well, from where I was sitting, it was pretty steep. The guy in the FJ40 that had the rear tires come off the rock and forward during the descent thought so too.

Whether it's not steep enough or not extreme enough for someone else is really none of my concern :wink1:.

Well Pauly, it seems a second set of 'congratulations' is in order :waytogo::waytogo: :D:D
My best wishes to Michelle!

You'd like Pritchett and the Poison Spider-Golden Spike-Gold Bar Rim trifecta. I agree going up stuff it much more fun than down. :D

Running Pritchett backwards is crazy as hell too:eek1: and much faster back to the trailer......I love that trail.

Hear we come again! Not sure how many rigs yet but we have a small Willyswanter group coming again and we're bringing with us the camera crew from Krawler Nation; a new rock crawling TV show and they will be joining everyone for the Bar-B-Q as well as on the trails. Can't wait to see everyone again.
