Blazer Bash 2020 last minute thrash

Well even though I have a great tow truck my goal is to have a driver, that can go anywhere.
The only reason I would consider towing is if I want to travel in my big rig as an rv and have my suburban for local trail rides where we stop.
But I prefer overland trips the most.

I have the same goal but a 480 mile trip to Moab, wheeling then driving home doesn't sound like fun yet.

I've always enjoyed it. I remember the first year driving the crew cab out there, the furthest we'd driven it was maybe 100 miles in a single trip and we hadn't even owned it a year. I was a little nervous about it, but we made it there and back. One thing I like about driving to the trail is that I'm reasonably confident the truck is going to be fine the trail because if it can make a 480 mile drive, it's probably fine for a 6 hour day idling on the trail.

The only special thing I try to do is leave early in the morning so it's cooler. The last year we drove out I didn't leave early and it was 105 degrees in the cab when we were driving west of Grand Junction.

I would have to leave at 12am for it to be somewhat cool the entire way haha

Well mine is 1200 miles each way and you are still driving there if you're towing but now you have to load and unload the truck as well

But the tow rig is newer, more dependable, a/c, comfort, doesn't howl in the wind, gets better mileage and I don't have to worry about breaking it while wheeling to get home.

I know my Blazer could do it, just knowing how not fun it is (uncomfortable) and 975 miles one way, rather not.

We just need to make stickers for Blazer Bash like I've made for a couple of offroad parks. It says, "Remember stupid, you have to drive this home". Then you could stick that on the inside of your windshield. :D

I guess "cooler" temps is subjective. I just meant given the choice, I'd rather drive in 90 degree vs 105 degrees.

Yup, and I'm on vacation I don't want to worry about getting home. Even though a tow rig can break down I think the chances are better not driving the wheeling rig home.
