Blazer Chalet / GMC Jimmy Casa Grande spotted

Ol' Doug still gots the memory functioning - allow me to direct you over here where I had dredged up its serial number. Yes indeed, it's Hartsock's old Chalet, found his 2005 ck5 ad for it here. The seller didn't know it, the original 400 was swapped for a 350, and Hartsock told me in an email yesterday that it has 125,000 miles, not 25,000.

I don't have ebay, but can someone alert the seller of this?

Spotted two of 'em on Youtube, the first guy said he would pass on the info about our Yahoo Chalet owners' forum to his dad. No other info about it, though. Waiting for a reply from the 2nd video creator....

PM to follow shortly, many thanks. Nothing like having so many extra sets of eyes out there.

Thanks also to oaknight for the CL ads, the Chicago one is serial #1131, Detroit one is a member of our Yahoo Chalet forum so that's why he mentions the number #1551 in the ad, and the Rockford one is #1483. I'd seen those but I have missed other Craigslist ads on multiple occasions where other forum guys caught 'em, so I'll never turn down any alerts.

I should have just parked my $1500 Chalet 10 years ago when I bought it and let it appreciate. Good grief people are asking silly money for K5's these days.

Yep. Dug out my paper printout from the 2014 Idaho Craigslist ad and that seller was asking $3850, but either he or the prior owner was asking $5000 for the same rig in 2008.

I'm all for capitalism profit, but price gouging only ends up creating angry owners when they discover later they could have gotten the same thing elsewhere for half the price. I wonder if the Texas ebay buyer of #1385 for over $21 grand figured out his mistake yet....

..Here's another one in Idaho....
That one has remained a mystery for a long time. I first contacted the seller in 2008 or 2007, talked with him on the phone and I think exchanged one or two emails, but he never did get the serial #/build date for the camper or fill me in with more info about his camping pal being a former administrator at the Chinook factory. Hasn't responded to my later contact attempts for who knows what reason....

How many chalets were produced and how many do you have the info on? Sorry, too lazy to go to your site and do the research myself and hoping you know off the top of your head.

No worries. I got a firm confirmation from a GM rep that there were 1,555 of the Chevy version, while one solitary reference that Dremu dredged up long ago (2nd paragraph in the mag article scan here) claims 1,780 total, so my best and only guess for the GMC Casa Grande versions is just the math equation of 1780-1555 = 225. The GM rep said they didn't have figures for the Casa Grande.

My ongoing updated tally from my mega-spreadsheet of Chalets and Casa Grandes that I can sorta individually identify is around 370. I say "sorta" because a decent number of those are photos, while others are no more than text of long-ago sale ads, and some are maddeningly vague references where guys alerted me to things like "Used as a storage shed in a junkyard, most likely Warren Truck & Auto Repair in Warren, MA". No doubt a few of those text references correspond with old photos I have, I just haven't gotten confirmation about 'em. I can pin serial numbers and build dates for the camper units to around 220 of those.

But, I 'find' (or others spot 'em for me) around 40 per year. Just yesterday, a guy emailed me via the public address at blazerchalet.com and said he needed to know how to temporarily lift his camper unit off the truck he has in Vail Colorado, so that's another new unit for the list, maybe.

Crazy hobby, but it has its entertainment value... :screwy:

Not crazy at all, it's good to have this info and somebody needs to do it.
Thanks for doing this and keep up the good work. :waytogo:
