ok so i bought a blazer about a year ago from a man who used it only for cruising around with the top off and carrying his 6 kids around. it is a 1990 K5. after taking the 20's off and the third row of seats out, i have only changed the oil and air filter in the truck, he kept excellent maintance records. but befroe i got it it had been sitting up for a while and i do not drive it much now, maybe once a month. but the problem is that when you start it, it puffs out white smoke for a few seconds. when you let the blazer sit for a few days or week or any long amount of time it doesnt smoke when started, only smokes when it sits for a few hours or so. the smoke looks white to me and smells like gas smoke, but im not positive. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I thought it might be leaking injectors but nothing makes sense why it doesnt do it after it sits for a little while. not to me anyway.

is it white or blue? I would guess valve guide seals are leaking. Pretty standard sbc problem. Will run forever like that but bothers some people.

it looks white to me. would that be causing it to do it when it sits for just a little while but not after a few days? thanks for the help, this was my first post to any forum.

actually THIS ^^^ is your 2nd post to the forums, :haha::D

As far as you problem, i dunno. Every once in a while if my K5 sits for week or two itll puff some smoke. as far as just a couple hours, could be rings, the smoke after a couple weeks would be valves.

My blazer does the same thing. It is from the "mushroom" valve guide seals leaking some. It does not seem to use any oil to speak of, but that puff of white smoke on start is annoying. Other than that my blazer runs great. :k5:

so does the oil just leak on through after it sits for a few days? is that why it doesnt do it after it sits?

I think that the seals leak a little oil by them or maybe through small splits. Mine only does it on start up, when ever it is started.
