Ok sorry I posted in the wrong group! I knew better. But anyway I had some square tubing at my shop and decided to make a tire carrier for my 72. I wanted y'alls thoughts on what ya think. I'm not sure it's worth the trouble... My buddy said it was too high? I like to mess around when I have the time! Here's some pics with the spare tire off my Jeep. It's not the bolt pattern so it's just kinda stuck on there. But you can get the idea! Be gentle, I'm not a master fabricator. :)

Thanks!

You will get tired of seeing that tire in the mirror!!! If I was to do another I would mount it lower, and would look at mounting on a swing down carrier instead of swing out. I get tired of hoisting the 37 into place.

Yeah looks to high. Just lower it down a bit. But good work today. It's amazing how much you learn by just messing around a little bit.

Doesn't seem like it would support the weight if you hit an unexpected bump. I could be wrong.

Cut the length so the top of the tire is maybe 6 inches or so above the top of the tailgate.

What are you supposed to do if you want to open your tailgate? You turned a 5 second job into a 5 minute job. Your choices would be to either unhook the carrier and attempt to carry the already awkward tire carrier or you could take the tire off and then handle the actual carrier.

Seems like a good idea if you just wanted to have a spare tire carrier and never actually plan on needing to replace a flat. Nice creativity though....

I agree guys it does need to be lowered... I'm not even sure it's worth the troubles of completing it. 70JIMMY where did you get your carrier? I like that a lot. I was going going to use the carrier when I was headed on a trip. I would lobe to find a clean looking swing away or down...

Thanks guys!

Looks like a LOT of leverage working against that single piece of square tubing.

Do you have any gusseting at the corners? I'd hate to see the weight of that tire bend the hanger in half during a hard turn or big bump.
