Blazer's 85 Suburban "Twinkie"

So went to work on the other truck I have been working on.

Dropped my grinder. I was sad. Have had it for 7 years and I paid $9.99 for it but it served me well.

So went and got another one.

Then did some work on the other truck for a few hours.

Then did some work on mine for a few hours

No pics of the other truck

but got some of mine

Tank is mocked up and will fit.

Going to put a skid plate in so it will sit a little higher.

Then run some straps over the top to hold it down.

Got the shock mount replaced also.

Had to cut a bit more of the floor then I wanted to so I have to add a bit of a brace to the side I had to cut out.

I'm sofaking in love with this. I'm going to copy you one day. After I roll it one more time.

You are da Mann!!!!!!

So I am sitting here thinking about this and it hits me crap I have a month :doah: to get this done and the injection.

They gave us a sheet of paper to do a little thing about what our rigs have. I think I put DIY doors and they go that from it.

So no pics because I did it at around 2300 tonight

Got the shock mount painted and a bolt put in and new rubber for the shock.

Painted the bottom of the tank with that rust converter stuff

I had cleaned a bunch of it off but had some left so instead of grinding a bunch more did the paint thing.

Will the out side seam of the fuel tank support its own weight, or should I build a base of sorts for it to sit on?

The stock brackets will work if I modify them alot and I mean alot. As well as cut more of my floor out. So they will fit in the front.

My three thoughts are

Sit the tank on the frame and then strap it down. (Not my first choice)

Build a frame of sorts that attaches to the frame of the truck on the bottom of the "C" for the tank to sit on then strap it down from the top. ( better idea I think)

Mod the factory frame mounts for the tank to fit (good idea but it also brings the tank a lot higher in the back of the truck)

All of the ideas the bottom of the frame will get a skid plate under the tank.

The tank itself will not be lower then the bottom of the frame in any of them either.

In all of them the tank will have to come out the top to be worked on, no biggy unless it gets a hole.

I wouldn't mount the tank by the flanged seam on the sides....to much weight for that thin metal to support IMO.

Yeah you are right Dave

So think I am going to trim the frame a bit so the tank will fit down into it from the top.

Then going to take the stock mounts and attach them on the top of the frame. That way I can hang the tank in the stock manner. Should work well that way.

Going to be able to mount the skid plate too after I shorten it because its a burb tank skid.

So spent the better part of a few hours making these have a few more hours to go.

Welder stopped working so had to go get another one.

Basically the stock ones mounted above the frame front one was trimmed tank sits about level.

Have to still mod the skid plate to fit it then make a rack to fit over the top so the cooler can fit on top of it.

I used those factory mounts on my first tank application too. Using the factory straps on the bottom then?
Did you have to trim the framerails for the seam clearance at all? I had to on the Maiden.
