It does sound like a cracked flexplate as well.
Easy enough to check that one.
Or even loose bolts on the flexplate

You can cut the oil filter open to check for bearing material.
Check oil and pull plugs. Those are the easiest ways to narrow down what’s going on.
If that’s too much, definitely start on a 8.1 swap instead

pull the belt and run it. still doesn't sound like a rod knock.
