Heading to northern cal next week. 12 hour drive. Stopping in Tonopah nv for over night. Weather Shaman say 13 for over night. What says the tribe, my az truck won't know what to do

Have a tester?
Typically a fresh 50/50 blend is good for -20 over about a 5 year period. Then it starts to breakdown

One problem some AZ family had visiting us one winter was frozen washer fluid. Whatever they had wasn't rated for cold temps. It was a real problem with the splash back on the highways treated with de-icer crap.

Run them in my dodge and the k5. The mj doesn’t have one but it’s getting one. The diesel fires right up. You can tell when it’s not plugged in. Bonus is the heater is already warm. This is down to -20 and lower. It gets cold and snows once in a while in Wyoming.

Don't worry about it. I run 50/50 in everything, always have. Made it through -20 and even -30 a bunch of times. Worry about the condition of your battery.

Never tried a bulb but I do own a magnetic engine heater. It just sticks to the oil pan but it only comes out for the stupid diesels.

I also have run into issues with washer fluid. There is a bunch available that is only good for summer temps.

I have a engine block header on a 78 K5 from the factory. I've taken it out once to replace the rubber O-ring and also drain the block of any sediment in the coolant. There was no sediment in the block. It also has the cold climate package which includes super heater and headliner.

What is a super heater?

I had no idea that there was a Cold Climate Package that included a “super-heater” in the old squares.
I did a little searching and found these from a 79 model year offerings.

I guess being from Florida we never had much reason to inquire about a superior heating system - we was too busy trying to keep things cool with bigger radiators and oil coolers…

Vehicles with the cold climate package never had AC.

I've spent many frozen nights in Tonopah and surrounding area. IMHO I wouldn't worry about it.

No air-conditioning !?!?! What is this cruelty that you speak of….

Ohhhh LAWD ALL-MIGHTY , I’m pretty certain that’s against the law in da’ south and might even be mentioned in the Bible ( somewhere between Genesis and Revelations ) that “thou shalt have cold air blow’n in thy square truck at all times”.

No A/C, that’s just wrong….

As others have posted with the temp rating of 50/50, that mix is WAY more than enough for almost everyone in the continental US.

I used to run 70/30 (water/antifreeze) into the teens and never had issues.

Seriously. Dont think twice about it. The reality is that corrosion prevention is the main reason 50/50 is pushed. Far more than enough freeze protection for ~95% of US drivers, and cools worse than a blend with more water to boot. But the corrosion protection is better at that concentration.
