so what would be my best choice? I figured one of these would pay itself off fairly quickly instead of having to let it warm up 15-20min before i leave for work and before i head home from work.

What are you guys running? any complaints?

magnet? freezeplug? circulating? other?

freeze plug, but a circulation one is the most effective but draws lots of power.

By far the best for keeping your warm up times low are a combination of the items.

But the best bang for the buck is the freeze plug one. its the most efficient, drawing about 150 watts, so you can use a timer. the circulating ones, have a lot of heat, but it is usually close to 1000 watts. If you keep the block heater in all night, it should give you heat pretty quick, and reduce engine wear and tear.

Mine is a 650 watt freeze plug style and was $15 new on ebay (its a GM heater). I wouldn't leave it plugged in all night (because that costs money) but its supposed to have the coolant up to 90 deg in 1 hr.
