Blue85 catches on fire

Glad it was only the truck, could have been everything you own, garage, house, ect.
This is the main reason I'm waiting on all the wiring and interior mods, is I need to weld up the floors, and I have shit for luck. So, I have all these new parts, harness, DIY4X dash, shifters. None going in, until I get the floors welded up.

Yeah, I'm already thinking through what direction I want to go. I did some of this interior stuff 20 years ago for stock/resto, but in later years it's been used primarily for adventure. I definitely want to lean more into the "place for everything" idea.

Might look into seeing if a local rental car place has a Jeep wrangler to rent for the trip. While it’s a jeep, it’s probably the most capable rig you can put your hands on for an overland event. Even a sport model would work.
No way to sleep 2 comfortably in one of those and can't set up platform, storage, radio, tablet in 1 day.
With the heater and ac box melted I think it would be a good time to swap out for an aftermarket hvac unit.
Are there aftermarket ones now that offer both fresh and recirc? No interest otherwise.

Luke, think you'd do a megasquirt again or something else?
This question also went through my mind. I'm not going to say no. With the way the engine is set up it would be stupid to spend money on aftermarket EFI. I was considering LS swap back when I had an LQ4 sitting around, but what I was running was unique, which is also cool, maybe a combo nobody else has.

I do have all of my harness drawings from when I designed the harness for MS originally and also when I went to the Ford EDIS, so it can be replicated.

I really need to tear down and start a list of everything damaged.

Totally get it. Your burb will fill the spot for the trip. Sadly I don't think any of the aftermarket options do have a recirc mode. It's been a while since I looked at them.

Total bummer man, that sucks! So sorry to hear this. Glad no one was hurt.

I am sure you will get it fixed back up after a lot of hard work.

AFIK, all of the aftermarket systems are recirculate only. No fresh air option. That's why they block off the original hole in the firewall for the blower motor. That's why I pulled Vintage Air put of my '70. Winter and summer rain storms were miserable. Couldn't keep the windows clear.

The adjuster is supposed to be here tomorrow. Any guesses on what a reasonable amount would be to fix this? I'm out of touch with shop rates and parts pricing. A shop would be impossible, but assuming my stuff was stock, it would need dash, harness, ECM, HVAC box, actuators and hoses, headliner, sunvisor, intake plenum, blower box, repaint of cowl, and possibly almost everything under the dash. Cluster is all smoky and suspect. Probably needs some level of underhood wiring, as fuse panel (from a Ranger) is near that area. Windshield is trashed. Don't know if metal dash can be polished out or needs repaint. Passenger seat upholstery is definitely affected.

I haven't started pulling things apart waiting for assessor (and sadness), plus busyness. I did pull the seats and carpet to let things dry, but they said that's OK, as long as it's all present and accounted for.

I think so. But clapped-out 1/2 interior missing trucks are $4k now.

The adjuster says the vehicle may be totaled. Does that mean I have to get a salvage title? The idea is that the entire interior has to be replaced to get rid of the smoke damage.

Hagerty says $23k for 1985 GMC K1500 Jimmy Sierra Classic 2dr Sport Utility Vehicle 4x4 8-cyl. 350cid/165hp 4bbl OHV.

My guess is that an all original one would sell for more than one with the whole drivetrain swapped and made out of parts from like 20 different cars and custom parts. If I took it to a shop and had them redo the interior and make it run again, I can't imagine that would be less than $10k (they would have to find a TBI system or put an aftermarket EFI in it).

If the insurance company totals it then you'll get a salvage title (which may / may not effect reinsuring it later). Maybe get several examples of the current higher market value to argue up the value of your truck and see if they will compromise on a repair settlement instead of totaling it. In any case, I wouldn't discuss any drivetrain modifications with the adjuster to prevent devaluation because it's no longer original, chances are the adjuster may not notice.

In terms of the injection, I think the probability of a shop knowing or wanting to deal with Tbi is low, and the cost for parts possibly drives towards aftermarket

If the insurance company totals it they may offer you to buy it back from them for a low price, or they may want to sell it to a scrap yard they deal with. Once you accept a check for it, it is now theirs, not yours, so work that out ahead of time whether you buy it back and take slightly less payment, and fix it your self, or hire it out with the insurance check. Personally with all the custom work you did to it I doubt you will want someone else trying to fix it?

On these types of vehicles agreed value insurance is the way to go, but a little late for that.

Be careful what you state to them, or they might try to avoid paying anything depending on what type of insurance you have. I truly hope it works out for the better for you Luke, that really sucks what happened.

A shop is going to want a simple plug and play solution so probably a Holley product like sniper or Terminator and a painless wiring harness.

I had a total loss on a vehicle from state farm. Rhey allowed me to buy it back for total value minus 10%. They never touched the title and I sold it as is and made almost $4000 on the deal. Do you still have title in hand?

Nobody has touched my title, nor will they get my truck. I've always assumed it would only be me fixing it, just thinking of other scenarios as a way to judge the damage.
