Pretty much sums it up. If someone asks me for an opinion, I'm not afraid to offer one. If they post up something they have already done that they're proud of (and I don't like it) I'll just keep my mouth shut.

Wow!
That should be a CK5 rule/sticky, shouldn't it :D  ?!!

Well said :waytogo: !

I like that - "The Godfather of K5s"

And I agree with you on flinching when I see cut up First Gens - although I have to admit - the sweetest truggies I have seen have First Gen bodies - that dark forest green one that is super straight with tapered front & rears - and the couple three that have been on here built by members.

instead of boat sidding it how about a rock slider instead..that way the "Gods" aren't affended :D :haha:

Thats was my original plan was just some built in sliders out of 2x3x.180 but I loved the clearence with the boatsides on my truggy and was brainstorming

I like your rocksliders alot    !! Excellent reference pic too!
I think I'll incorporate those into my rollcage.

Not boatsided per say but my rockers are gone in favor of rock sliders.

Appears everyone forgot about the very first post on this thread...

No rockers anymore, just sliders that get used alot.

Thats why I am thinking boatside so there is more clearance to not get hung up on as much

True enough.

Small price to pay for driving a 1st gen. :D

Vtblazer....I am looking to have my top off more than it will be on. My rocker boxes are gone(1 rusted out 1 just gone). My question is if I go the route you went do the sliders do what the rockers are supposed too? Do the rust issues in that area go away? And do you have more detailed pics showing what you have done? And any progress on tube doors?

The first pics I posted show it really well. (beginning of this thread)
The torsion boxes and rocker just disappear to make room for the sliders.

Not the best case scenario because it does allow for firewall flex but yeah, the rust is gone.
The front clip will hold thing's in place for the most part but on the twisted areas while wheeling, you'll notice your doors may not open all the time...

Having the doors on helps also but I like wheeling without them way better, that's why when I do the tube doors, they'll be structural like the factory doors are.

Tying the windshield frame into the cage might be an option too.

Any idea on what the Tube doors are going to look like? The ones that the guy over at DIY4X are awsome looking but he only makes them for the 2nd generation and says he does not think he will make them for ours. Send me a pic of what yours will look like I am looking to get a set before spring.

If you'd asked "what the hull is boatsiding?", the answer would have been in your question! :D

Appearance-wise, I don't like what boatsiding does.....on a later model K5 it's fine, because who cares how THOSE look! :wink1: It's another one of those mods that people do which effectively turns a full size Blazer into a Jeep body.... like narrowing or dovetailing. If you want a body that is a small and useless like a Jeep, then just slap a Jeep body on your Blazer frame and be done with it....

Jeez, somethings got me riled up tonight.

you calling me a jeep lover  i'm going to taper my fenders :eek1: :haha: . it's either i cut the crap out of the fenders to fit 44s or taper the fenders...with only about 6-7" of lift. unless you have a better idea, that would keep me from doing such butchery to my Blazer, then i see these two as my only options. :D ...now please don't go giving me the "kiss of death" godfather :p:

ok, back on topic...
What thickness metal are you guys using on your built in sliders? My lasiders on my old cab truck were 2x3x.120 and I put some dings and such in them. If I am gonna build them into the body I wouldn't ever wanna have to replace them. Maybe .180?

It's probably the kind of part that once you have it installed and start using them a lot, you'll wish you had made them as thick as possible...... why not go .250"?? Or at least go with the .180" and then do a second piece of "replaceable" L-channel on the outer two sides. You could mess around with the thickness of that second part until you found the appropriate "beefiness quotient"...

Marion Cobretti,

Do whatcha like... but getting clearance for Foh-Dee-Fohs is going to require cutting regardless of narrowing or dovetailing.

:usaflag:

I plan on taking some 1.75 tubing out it too like an inch gap between the slider and the tube and with a tie in like every foot or so thatwill reinforce it too.

I just got my set of 395/85R20 Michelin XML's yesterday  .
I've decided to have two sets of fenders: one set for the 11.00R16 XL's (on road), and one set for the XML's.

I'm going to use the XML's for offroading and snow season. And use the XL's for the rest of the time. It's going to be a big PITA, like the hardtop, but to me it's really worth it.
That's why I bought my '72: Full convertible and fender-style!

I totally agree with Greg72 regarding the 1st Gen.'s.

well got my slider on the drivers side in. Is 2 x 3 x 3/16 rec tubing. Cut the ends at 45 degrees and capped with some 10ga. gonna put some 1.75" tube off of it out some but just glad one side is done. 28.5" ground clearance.

Made me curious so I had to go outside and measure...I'm @ 29" even.

Thanks for measuring actually, I was curious where mine stacks up with other rigs. Whats your belly clearance? I think our rigs are pretty darn similar... except the ford and chevy front end differences. :saweet: :waytogo:

I opted against boatsiding after deciding I would probably like having doors snow wheeling and figured I could only gain just a few more inches without uber modding the doors.
