I’ve been using Evercoat z grip. I’m wanting to step up to a premium filler.

I’m looking at the rage gold, ultra, and extreme. I’m looking for something easier to sand, and use.

I’m open to other brands but I definitely want something that is easy to work with and gives a great finished product. I don’t care about cost just want the best i can buy...

And I’ve never used glazing putty. I normally just slick out the body filler really good and then epoxy and high fill primer.

What is the best glazing putty i can get?

Thanks everyone.

the Rage series is hard to beat.. tho the 3M/Marson stuff is REALLY good too.. really it depends on how deep the dent for which one... the lighter the "weight" the creamier, easier to sand, and least pinholes.. but also the lighter, the thinner you want.. I run Rage Gold most of the time... extreme is a bit creamier and smoother..... ultra is their newest, and i hear their best, but i haven't used it yet..

always remember to drag in multiple directions before your "final drag".. this eliminates as many pinholes as possible..

for glazing putty, I like Evercoats stuff.. whatever you get, make sure it's a 2 part... the evercoat quantum is tit's for large areas... their quick sand one is nice for small spots... it's easy to sand too.. just always remember, icing is really just for the shallowest of areas, pinholes and sandscratches..... not dents .. the thinner and creamier the product, the more likely to get shrinkage and cracking from it...

Ditto on all of that but the glazing compound. Dolphin is the best I have ever seen or used. It isn't cheap but it flat holds. It's a two part that hardens in minutes, not hours. It's also uber flexible. You can even use it on fiberglass and plastic parts I think.

I didn't know you where in that field.....

LOL...I've had my fingers in lots of fields. I'm not an expert by any means but after retiring and before moving out here I worked part time for a friend in his body shop to have some thing to do. I had been helping him on and off for years. That and got to work on my projects at his shop for free. Got a lot of experience quickly and learned a lot for sure. I still can't paint for SHITE but I was there for the mechanical stuff. I took them apart and put them back together. I did get state certified on the frame machine, so that kept me busy until I decided to up and move to the mountains....LOL

yeah I ran the EZ-liner for a few yr's back in the day... i found that super fun compared to painting 25 a week.... I'll do qrters and skins all day...

my buddy told me to try out the Dolphin, that it was good, but I'm still finishing up my last tube of Evercoat...

Dolphin has been around a while. I used it 7-8 years ago? Anyway the sweetest part about it was you can put it under a UV light and it cures in MINUTES. Hard as Chinese arithmetic but still flexible. If you get some try the little test thing that a PPG guy did for us in the shop. Apply to a cheap fender scuffed to 800 grit to give it something to bite. Rapid cure it under the light and smack it with a hammer. The panel will bend but the Dolphin won't crack. Cool stuff.

I won't name drop or anything but my buddies shop gets a ton of high end work. He doesn't do insurance jobs and fender/hood stuff. All they do is big money customs and hot rods. They would bring them in essentially in pieces from a wreck and I'm the redneck stroking his beard sayin'....I can fix that. And we did! Most times.

i went from AB school as a teen to a resto shop doing everything from mixers, D9's and triaxles to vettes, 50's buicks to airplanes.... start to finish... it was actually a concrete/quarry company with bosses that had stooopid $$$$, and LOT's of toys... ;)

than got in the collision game for about 6 yrs and shot about 2000 cars... since then I've been a mechanic/glass/gel boat guy... structural thru ummm, everything.... :haha: we just built this......

Thanks guys.

And good tip for pinholes. I’ve been getting some with my z grip... probably operator error lol. It has pinholes in it from me mixing even...

I’m not covering any deep dents... mostly just minor stuff that i have hammered out. Finally getting back on my restoration.....

I’m going to pick up a gallon of the ultra. I’ll have to check out the dolphin stuff.

Also i am doing a couple patches. Is short strand reinforced filler still recommended over welded patches?

Thanks guys

we always ran a duraglass product at least over the seam for patches... rough that out with 36, than skim with a gold, ultra, etc...
