I have a 1990 k5. Me and one of my buddies put a 3" body lift on about 1 1/2 years ago. While I was finishing up the spacers, he welded the extension onto the transmission shifting rod. When I got in the truck, it would only shift into park, reverse, neutral, and overdrive. It wouldn't go into drive, 2nd or 1st. I checked and I think he welded the extension in the wrong spot. Is the 700r4 transmission. He welded the extension in the longest straight part of the rod while I think it's supposed to go at the top. Does anybody know if I'm right? Any pics of how it should be will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! -Aaron

Should be an easy fix. Does the indicator on your dash line up with what gear it is actually in?

It doesn't really matter where you weld the extension. I just has to go into the long rod that runs vertically down the firewall. Unhook linkage, manually put both trans and shifter in park. weld up the linkage in that position. Small adjustments can be made with the pinch bolt on the linkage at the trans.

I think the indicator is a little past the gear it's actually in. Like in o/d it will be between o/d and "D". And how do you adjust it with the pinch bolt?

almost all I have ever done are for the t-case shifter extension .

the auto trans one on our trucks is adjustable a little and tends to work just fine.

and if you go on performance acssessories web site you can click the directions link to your kit and re read the directions .
