Body mounted sliders...just how much abuse can they take?

I liked the box idea at the body mount and I may still do that to mine. But here is my little idea that I put together. I havent 4x4ed or tested it out, but dont think ill have any issues.

Believe it or not, I was always wondering how to tuck up my sliders against the rocker, I actually stumbled across your thread before so thanks for the idea and the inspiration :D

I wanted to go overkill on mounting the slider to the body, I figured boxing and adding a gusset or two wouldn't hurt, plus I squeezed in three 1/2" bolts per mount. I'm sure I've made a set of the most ridiculously overbuilt nerf bars, but I'm still weary about dropping my truck on them.

How are your brackets attached to your frame? I didn't see any bolt heads.

Where did you locate it? in the middle of the frame? Also was it tied into a hinged bushing, or was it a flange that bolted to the frame?

Also has your improvement held up well?

Here are my sliders with the steps added on. The were 2x3 tube originally. I added the 2x2 outrigger bars/steps.

Here they are after I wedged them in between some rocks and stumps.

Single bar added. I measured and came off right in the middle of the slider and straight to the frame. Both sides are welded. Trail only truck or I would have used a bushing.

It has held up great! Will support the weight of my rig easily and I use them regularly to pivot on stumps and rocks. My truck gets used "roughly"

Heh. I just looked, yea you cant see them. I used existing holes in the frame and just drilled some holes in the C bracket. The bolt is behind the Bushings, there was decent amount of space between back of C bracket and the bushing.

Whereabouts in Wyoming? Seen in one of his posts he was at around 7000ft elevation, coincidentally that's the same elevation here

Solowookie is in Lyman, about 30 miles from you.
But he was last seen here in march 2009.
He was looking for some parts for his crew cab and I had them all ready for him, but when I was passing thru he stopped coming here so I don't know what is happening with him.
I know he had kids with medical problems, I wanna say autism but I could be wrong.

Nah! That's just another one of those "mall crawlers", slap some wax on there and that will all buff out to a mirror shine!:haha:

Anyways...that was the EXACT info I was lookin' for, you sir are awesome! I think I will tie my sliders into the frame like you did, only I will fab up a wide flange to accommodate 4 bolts, however if I can find the smaller unused leaf spring bushings I pulled out for the ORD shackle stuff I may incorporate the bushing idea too . I was stumped on how to reposition the two new legs on the frame; one, the frame has near zero flat spots (excluding the body mounts and the middle section), two, avoiding the holes I drilled for the previous mounts.

btw your build thread is freakin' epic

Ahhh, I was wondering how you did that.

I might have a break from work the following weekend, so I may finish up these sliders, I'm also going to re work my front bumper, and I have metal sitting in the shop for my rear bumper begging to be chopped up and welded together.

Well I now have a plan of attack, I'll post up some more pics when the job is done :D

Thank you and glad I could help. Let me know if you need any better pics. Its somewhat cleaner underneath right now, but will prolly be dirty again Monday

Cool deal. Yea. Even tho mine are done, I like to see other ideas and such. So far mine are working well on the street, meaning that tieing the rocker slider at the body AND frame with the bushing kit isnt restricting the movement. Ive got the sway bar yank and still have some body roll, so I know that the bushing kit is helping keep the body and frame seperated. lol. hope you can understand all that. lol. It sounds confusing even as I type it out. lol

I'm now in that time frame where I'm so busy at work that I can't spend my hard earned cash during some leisure time:doah:....or get projects done.

Well I FINALLY got a chance to work on my truck, and I forgot how 'fun' it is hand drilling holes in my chassis, still a work in progress, and I plan to add some gussets from the square tube to the mounting plate.
