I am consitering buying a paint gun, although I dont want or need the best I at least want one I can use a few times. The problem is I have no idea what to get, suction feed, gravity feed, nozzle sizes, ect. there seams to be so many differnt paint guns Id hate to get the wrong one. The paint Ill most likely be useing is Industrial enamel since I have several gallons of it in various colors. Any tips for a newb painter?

Thanx,

That industrial enamel is thick stuff. I have a 97 Chev shortbox and the hood was painted with it and it was so thick the hole hood was all cracks. My buddy also had a 97 Ford that was painted with that stuff to and the whole truck was all small cracks. Both trucks were black show it really showed up. It is thick enough when we went to strip the hood on my 97 it took along time for it to peel up. We used aircraft stripper and we thought it was a dud can, but it was just thick paint. Anyways gravity feed i hear are the best. At the body shop my boss use's a suction feed gun. We also use the same thing at home for paintin vehicles.

Thanks ryoken, and bowtie yea thats what I have herd about it. I was told to thin it 50/50 to spray it. Maybe ryokens tried it? Oh I almost forgot do I need a pressure reg or anything else? and how many psi to start with?

You will need to regulate it.. just get the small one ya run inline right at the gun, some have gauges.. Do yourself a HUGE favor and get the small inline seperator to attach to the gun, either the round, plastic ball-looking ones or one like this...

spraying is a function of viscosity... That will dictate how much you reduce... Generally, a 5 to 8 second drip-count off a stir stick on the old poormans viscosity test will yield good results... pm me at the time and I can go into mixing, pressure, etc more for ya..

take a peak over on eghey at the guns.. the devilbiss finishline series is a good lower budget gun...
