Body swap question

Are you trying to save body #1 ? If not, take it off by chopping it up with a sawzall, etc..

I'm not trying to save it, but I'm putting it on the other frame and bringing it all to the junkyard to get alittle money back. I'd cut it up if I was bringing it to the metal scrap yard, but I'll get more money from the junkyard as a whole truck. I'll just throw the front clip in the back and load it up on a trailer.

I like that set up, looks pretty slick. Thought about doing something similar for top removal but I guess if I build it strong enough I can do much more with it.

I doubled up rough cut 2x6 and used a 2x8 double header, I would even go bigger just to be safe (2x10). It went quite well. Put it down on those wheels and wheeled it through the garage into the back yard where it has sat ever since :doah:

I'm thinking of chopping it up and hauling it to the garbage dump. I didn't pay much for it.

Well, I ended up using DK5's idea, now I just need to get some straps and strap up the chain hoist and get this body off.

Are you taking the top off before you lift it?

I'm not sure how this will fare with that much weight. Keep in mind I had no doors, no interior, and no top when I did it. If you're going to lift it as is, I would have gone with a little more beef up top for sure (maybe 2x10 double).

Any more pics of your setup there?

The blazer with the white body and blue stripe has already had the interior stripped, I plan on taking of the doors, but the rear window regulator doesn't work so I can't pull the top or tailgate without fixing it. The blue body has a soft top (that's going on the white one after I fix the rear window), and I also plan on taking the doors and interior out of it.

Well with the brackets it should be fine. That design can hold a lot of weight. Just test it carefully first and go from there.

Looks good. Glad to see that I was of help :waytogo:

I plan to go very slow and only high enough to slide the frame out from under it.
One question, where did you hook the straps/chains to the body to lift it?

Sure you can. Unbolt the top, remove the side windows, run straps through the open sides, and use your new toy to lift the top straight up to clear the t-gate glass. Yes, the glass tilts forward but it's also tapered on the sides. It'll go straight up and release from the glass.

Option 2, you don't want to remove the side windows. Slide the 2 window open, run one strap through there. Get in and lift up on the top and feed a strap or 2 between the top and glass. Use your new toy to lift straight up.

It can be done, most certainly, it can be done.

I did my burban- wasnt bad, jacked body off and blocked up with cement blocks, took wheels off rolling front rotors on a 4x4 and rear on a rolling jack. It was about 100 degrees outside-thought I would die, slow and easy rolled one frame out and another in.

Well my setup was a little different. I bought the body only and it was on a trailer. We put lumber underneath the body (bolted it to the body mount locations and jacked it up from the lumber (basically two double 2x6's 16 feet long).

I'm thinking you could maybe go under the rear wheelwells and up front maybe lift through the doors (under the roof).

Otherwise you can do what I did and bolt up some lumber in the body mount locations. You would have to jack it up though to do that.

If your junking the body AND the topper. There is a thread on here about a dude looking for the bolts and hardware, maybe ya'll can work something out, beats letting that stuff go to the crusher. Jus say'n

The body is ready to come off, just waiting on my buddy to get me some straps. If I wasn't trying to be cheap and just go get some straps it could be done. I am a procrastinator though....

Well, I got part of the swap done. I ended up leaving everything on the blazer, and even left the interior in the truck. I did do it a different way though. Lifted the front and slid a 4x4 under the body, then moved to the rear and lifted it and pulled the frame out some. Sat the back of the body on some stacked up tires, then moved back to the front to get it up high enough to roll the frame out. After the frame was all the way out I sat the front down on some big cinder blocks. Now I just have to make my big body dolly. I still haven't decided if I want to cut the blue body up or take it off...
