"Bolt-on" Single cab conversion

well, jonrpick, since you have more knowledge and experience on the topic I'd rather let you email them. I found the email though: [email protected]

I would be willing to learn how to make them if I had the time/money/tools, all of which I don't have right now... maybe in a couple years. Otherwise, I'd definitely be interested in paying someone to make it

really a body shop should be able to take a pickup cab or something and make it skin on. The street truck guys make theirs convertable and make the top go back on.

It's done... :wink1:

I emailed Vicki @ Glasstite...here's her response:

From: "Vicki Wodtke" <[email protected]>

I spoke with our plant manager here and he said years ago we sold the mold and rights to it, to a business across the street from us. He doesn't believe they still make these, however he may have some information for you. You can contact him at 507-695-7320, ask for Earl Johnson.

So who wants to call Earl??? :D

Edit: Earl apparently works for Specialty Design Concepts...

http://www.specialtydesignconcepts.com/

I Googled the phone number Vicki provided and that's what I got. Searching their site now.

Rather than editing my last post (again) I thought I'd add this... On the "about us" section of Specialty Design's website, I noticed this:

http://www.specialtydesignconcepts.com/about.html

In August of 2005, Specialty Design Concepts, LLC was born as a result of purchasing the assets of Creative Products of MN, Inc. which had been doing plastic vacuum forming and fiberglass custom molding since early 1990.

Creative Products was the company that I'd contacted previously, that had made the half-cab kits. That's the company that said they still had the molds for the fiberglass, and could provide instructions for making the steel bulkhead.

Also:

From the start, our predessor had done much of the pattern, tooling and prototype work on the products for its customers. In recent years, that area had grown significantly making patterns for items as small as 4" x 6" to as large as pickup toppers. In the past 2 years, they built over 25 pickup tonneau and topper patterns.

There is hope... :saweet:

I dug through old emails and found this from 2005. This is the response I'd received when I emailed Creative Products...just useless FYI kinda stuff...

From: "creative products" <[email protected]>

Jon - we no longer carry the half cab conversion kits. However, we can make you just the fiberglass piece. We could send you diagrams for the side brackets and bulkhead and information on where to get the window, gasketing, etc. The price for just the fiberglass piece would be $350 plus shipping.

EARL HAS THE MOLDS AND DIAGRAMS!!!

I WILL BE EMAILED A PRICE QUOTE TOMORROW!!!

I'm still waiting. I spoke to him near close of business yesterday, and they're in Minnesota (not sure what time zone that is). So I don't expect he'd have it until later in the day.

But yes, I'm anxiously awaiting myself... :D :woot:

x2 I would love the pickup option, im dialed into this thread hope somethin pops up!:D

I haven't received an email quote yet, but if I don't hear anything today, I'll surely call him back tomorrow.

The good news is that we're only waiting on a quote. The molds and diagrams still exist, so this product can easily be put back into limited or full production, based on demand.

I'm wondering if we can put together a CK5 group order and get the price down per unit...?

just to be certain, he has molds for the 76-91 or the 73-75 full top? Heck is he has molds for the 69-72 you could get a few and make bank on the street truck guys, they were after mine like vultures

After I get a quote, I'll try to organize a group buy.

Ideally, we could get them to sign up as a vendor here. Obviously, we have the largest concentration of active Blazer/Jimmy owners on the planet right here, and this is a product which is for that vehicle, and that vehicle only.

It's guaranteed sales.

I think if they paid the $100 for a vendor membership, they'd get it back in no time.

:D

I'm 99.99% sure it's for the 76-91 trucks. He seemed to know exactly what I was talking about.

BTW, what year did the rear floor change? IIRC, the part where it drops down changed location at some point, correct? Did the change correspond with the 1976 change to half-cabs?
