Bomb it flat?

The firewall that is. Should I just bomb it flat black?

I figured before I put the fenders off my other rig on the truck, I`d spray bomb the inners (engine compartment side) flat black, so it wasn`t left charcoal.

Should I do that, or do my best to paint match it in a spray can, and bomb the innerfenders, and the rest of the firewall red?

I was thinking just bombing the sections you can see that weren`t painted (fresh) flat, and the inner fenders too.

dont use flat, use a satin, falt black looks like crap once it gets dirt on it and you cant really wipe it off and not have it look normal. Honestly a few coats of gloss looks nice and wipes down real good.

Use Satin or Semi-Gloss black. You'll be much happier down the road!

For those who chose color match, anyone know of a spray bomb that matches the factory 82 red?

go to your local automotive paint store, take your ash tray lid, or something with the paint on it, they can match it and make you a custome aresol can, cost is around 12-25 bucks a can, you may hae to buy a pint of it though..so could be a bit more. Some paint shops wil make just a couple cans, others have a minimum.

p.s.

looks like with your fuel like you can take it off and fill up someone out of gas on the side of the road.. lol

flat sucks to get clean, and its hard not to look like hell when done with a spraycan IMO

I undercoated mine, dont really have a good picture of it, I think it looks pretty good and made it slightly quieter in the cab.

Hmm, i think I still have a can left, too, maybe i`ll undercoat the firewall, and spray bomb the inner fenders, in the satin black flavor...

If you want it to look pretty then gloss black. I would go with flat.

Why didn't you paint the firewall before you put the cab on the frame? If you wanted a good looking job, that would have been the time to do it.

Because that would`ve been far too easy

FWIW, I`m not going for the show type vehicle, not by anymeans.

I suppose I could have, but we put the cab on, on a day we had no intentions of doing it, so it wasn`t planned at all.

My vote....Duplicolor bedliner spray out of an undercoat gun....looks sassy and damn near bulletproof.

They make the duplicolor stuff in a spray can.....hmmm, easier to spray than undercoat. I just don`t have the option to use the undercoating gun.

I've seen it in a spray can but don't know if it looks the same. They make a roller to put it on as well. As an aside an undercoat gun is less than $20.

Either way, I think Advanced Autoparts, or Autozone will carry the duplicolor stuff. I bought it in a gallon, about $50. Stuff is thick and dries like a rock. I actually had to thin it use it in an undercoat gun!!

the dupicolor is textured and will collect dirt and dust in it, add some oil deposits or grime and it will look like crap. Just spray it with satin or gloss, seriously!

The duplicolor is not textured...depends how you spray it on. You can spray any paint textured depending how you spray it. It is not a Rhino-liner urethane material or anything of the likes.

I would paint the inner fenders, gloss/satin, but on the firewall where you have residual factory "tar" sound proofing I would use something heavy (undercoating), a bedliner spray, or some other textured material. There is so much residual texture there... just in the photo... that it won't really matter what you spray it with...the result will to some extent be textured. If you want something resembling that factory finish pick up a gallon of roofing tar, thin it with linseed oil, and spray or brush on. Won't ever rust from the outside in thats for sure.
