Booster line

Hopefully I'm using the correct nomenclature.....there is a pvc elbow screwed into the brake booster with a rubber line that is clamped to a metal line. Then the metal line screws into the mainfold IIRC....can someone please tell me what this does, the reason I ask is while I was changing out the valve covers I noticed the line has been bent and almost crimped.

It supplies vacuum to the power brake booster. Without it you wouldn't have power brakes. If it is kinked your brakes my take a little longer to recover when pumped, but unless it is almost completely closed you wont even notice.

EDIT: If kinked be sure you don't try to straighten it or it may crack.

This hose provides the vacuum the booster needs to provide assistance to your breaking effort. Your pedal is probably tougher to push with that line crushed like that.
