I finally bought myself a k5. It happens to be my first vehicle. It runs great - its got a 350 w/ edelbrock upgrades all around. Best part is i only paid $1500 for it...

Nice catch what are your plans for it?

Plans? fix it up a little (few things here and there) and it will be my daily driver... so no fender hacking. I will do trails and my main plan is to go to the dunes with it.

Very nice! I love that body style, they are hard to find near me. Take good care of it, wish I had my first vehicle still... Mine was a 1978 camaro, I miss that car!

thanks. I would go to the first gen section, but I'm not a member yet. But it is on my to-do list.

and youll think about what shes doin when shes "workin."
:haha::rotfl::haha:
really now, what should I do as far as upgrades? I know for a fact I need tires and a paint job(just primer now). and a few minor fixes, but what true upgrades should i look into? my dad said to look into NOS and turbos. but that doesn't surprise me because he had a 78 blazer with a 427, blower, NOS, and 40's.

i would look into a radio and some speakers honestly. theres no reason to worry about axle upgrades or anything since its a DD. get it comfortable first. maybe some newer seats from a newer chevy truck also. then start looking into tires and rims. whats the specs on it now?

very true. I forgot about a radio. right now it has the front buckets out of newer blazer and it came with all 3 original seats and i was thinking of having the back seat reupholstered. also its rear window is gone and theres no frame or hinges. it also has a half cab that the 1st owner hacked out of the original hard top (almost made me cry to see a hacked 1st gen hardtop). and the tires are cracked and I don't trust them all that much. floor has already been stripped, and I was thinking bedliner.
I hadn't even thought of comfort, but now it all I can think of...

welcome to the club.first off,fix the hood hinges.that looks horendous.haha.look hard into all nooks and crannies for rust.doesnt look like too much there.dont worry about crazy engine upgrades yet.just have fun drivin it and do little things for now.hows the interior?if itsalready stripped herculine it or something similar.half the work has already been done for you.12 bolt axle will hold up if your nice to it.ive blown 3 and went 3/4 ton now.14ff rear and dana 44 with 3/4 ton outer knuckles.manual or auto tranny?either way,looks pretty good.700 dollars less than i paid for mine and i got tons more rust.

I know the hood hinges are bad, I might be able to score a set off of a '72 GMC pickup for free if I can't bend them back into shape. Its a manual - 4 speed granny. And I looked all over it for rust before I bought it. The only cancer is in the passenger door frame. Also, know where I could get some stock mirrors? And how do you clean a gas tank with 3 year old gas in it?

lmc has the stock mirrors.you could setup a electric fuel pump inline and pump the old gas out from the tank.i have a soft line in between the mechanical fuel pump and the tank for a filter there on the frame that i can undo and pump out fuel.if there is not much in there you could run a full tank of super unleaded in there and run a can of heat in there to get out any water from sitting so long.make sure to replace the fuel filter and check it for the first couple hundred miles.no matter what you will peobably have to replace it a couple times before it gets the crap out of the lines.that should suffice unless there is a lot of rustforming already.3 years is a long time for something to sit and not get gross in there.only real way would be to drop the tank and take ou the fuel sender so you can see what kind of crap is in the bottom of it.i think you should try the pumpout method first to see how dirty and watery the fuel is first though.good luck.

Cool, thanks. I found the mirrors and when I get some money, I will order them. I was also considering dropping the tank from the start. Now I've also come across a radio - it came out of a 2003 Chevy half-ton. And I cannot find a wiring harness anywhere that fits it for sure. If all else fails, how hard is it to make a wiring harness to connect a basic radio to some cheapy speakers?
