New guy here. I recently purchased a 200K mile ‘88 K5 that has been more or less untouched. Everything on the truck looks original, body is straight and rust free, and mostly everything works. The only thing that I know has been replaced/rebuilt is the 700R4. My plan for this truck is to go back to original, down to the original paint job and interior. I’ll add a small lift and bigger tires too. So far I have done just the usual tune up items: oil, plugs, fuel filter, and air filter, just to get her running a bit better. I have also replaced the ring and pinion and all rear end bearings and seals. My next project is new tie rod ends, drag link ends, and ball joints.

So my question is, where should I go from here? I want this thing to look and feel like it just rolled off the factory line. I’d prefer to replace stuff before it fails, so what is likely to go next considering the mileage? Are there known weak points or components? Are there a few “if _______ has 200K miles on it, it’s only a matter of time before it goes?”

Looks like she’s all there. Nice rig to start with!

If the frame isn't cracked at the steering box, now is the time to weld on the patch panel and add the brace. If you are adding a lift, it will crack. Mine did without a lift.

Replace the foam in the seat if it's shot. Take the top off and check/ replace the rubber seal. That's where a lot of water get in and starts rotting out inside the b-pillar and cab corners.

Tie rod ends and the drag link, nice rig though,I have a 1990 I have owned since 92,and I have255000 miles on it

Just reread you original post, you are ahead of me ,sorry

Tear down the interior and check all the known areas for rust. Get up close and personal with every nook and cranny. Rust hides well stop the little bit now before it spreads. While the interior is out, Id clean up the floor pans redo any seams, power wash the carpet etc. Then wire brush the frame and underside and apply rust preventative paint. Get a seal kit for the roof doors etc.

If the steering box frame portion is not cracked yet. You could get by with the ORD frame brace. Id buy the patch kit to have on hand for later though.

Get a new Dash Pad, Bezel, gauge lens. They really make it look "New"

Looks like some elbow grease and time will shine it up nicely
