This is probably a nooby question but I'm a new Blazer owner and new to off roading, so cut me some slack. I want to do a brake job on my truck but it has a 14 bolt ff, a Dana 60, and I don't have any idea how to get parts for those. Any ideas or if you can point me in the right direction would be great. Thanks!

Alright Monduke, you have to have a general Idea of what year the axles are...

Not every 14BFF is the same...

Some had captured drums, some floating, some were factory disc.

Also it is super easy to convert a drum version to disc.

The 60 front should easy as long as it has factory brakes on it. (Assuming you have a Chevy 60, I'm not to smart on the dodge or furd versions...)

Sometimes people convert the factory brakes to the smaller 3/4ton stuff to be able to fit a 15" wheel, that will complicate things.

If you are unsure of any of this, pull the wheels and take some pics for us...

P.S. this group is fairly Newb friendly, ask your questions and they general are answered reasonably well and reasonably fast...

@Monduke if you don't know the year of the 14 bolt can you post a pic of the yoke side of the housing? Need to see if the pumpkin has big cooling fins or if it's smooth. Also, (as stated) is it drum or disc?

Most likely, an single rear wheel 85 K30 will work as a good application to buy parts for on the D60. It should work for the 14 bolt too if it's still drum (and a smooth housing).

welcom to the nice guy site .

we can help no problems .

post up some pics of the brakes with a tire off of each axle this will help us pin point to 99% what you should need .

there both fairly easy axles to play with .

It's drum brakes and the pumpkin is smooth. I have now idea what year the axle is. Is there any markings on the outside to give it away? I'll pull the wheels off this afternoon and get some pics for you guys.

Drums and smooth housing mean you can use that 85 K30 (NOT a dually though).

Nothing on the outside of the 14 bolt but the next time you pull the cover to change the oil the date of manufacture and ratio is stamped on the ring gear.

x2 on his info .

Hey guys, it's been a minute but I FINALLY got those pics of my front and rear brakes. On the drum brakes there are part numbers/serial numbers that I also took pics of, not sure if they'll be any use. I also took a pic of the numbers on the back of the bake of the caliper in the front.

reg old dana 60 front brakes .

reg old stock drum brakes in the rear . look like 13" drum. just not sure if 2.5" or 3.5" wide shoe . and if you need to service them you need to pull the whole hub and drum setup as one unit . the drum is pressed on the back of the hub .

alright, so what vehicle should I be buying parts for? The drum brakes are squeaking real bad so i'm thinking that once I take that apart I wont be putting it back together with out new parts.

if you have another vehicle take pads and shoes off one side and take em with you so you can match em up

only do one side that way you can look at other side to see how it goes back together and if you can take pic after pulling drum off for referance

The shoes will be 2.5" wide, the 3.5" are for a dually.

i have 3.5" on my srw trucks . never played with swapping by me . and there is k30 srw spec for 3.5" shoe .

rock auto showing 1985 k30 rear stuff almost all of it 3.5" wide shoes srw specs .

Not the first time I've been wrong. I thought 3.5" was the widest size and only for duallies. I took a quick look at rockauto and O'Reillys sites, I didn't see where you could sort by SRW or DRW though.

rockauto each line for brand / part# lots of them show single rear wheel or srw or drw or give the size of the brakes .

Thanks for the info! I'm pricing everything out and for a little extra I can just by a disc brake conversion from lugnut 4X4, so I might go that rout.

doing disc rear swap can lead to swapping master and booster to bigger stuff and even a different proportioning valve also .

its a slippery slope to go down .

and dont forget the parking brake system . lots of guys say cady calipers but they can be a royal pita to get adjusted and stay adjusted .

if you dont do mud i would almost say 100% stay drum .
