Hey all.. i know it's my fist post, but it wont let me introduce myself in the lounge forum, so WTFever..

anywho, i've got a 79 Jimmy, and i noticed last week that my brakelights arent lighting up. i get turn signals and running lights, but push the brake pedal and get nothing. i checked bulbs, they're fine. i started fiddling with the brakelight switch, and got the passenger side to light up, but no driver's side. swapped bulbs, but with no change. first i thought maybe a bad socket, but then the turn signals wouldnt be lighting up either, right? Where do i go now?

Turn signal switch or brake light switch. Brake lights run through the turn signal switch so it is possible to get turns without brake lights.

ahh... i just had my column apart a few weeks ago (something was causing the horn to honk every time the wheel would turn) i know the wires on the cruise control button arent connected, they were all frayed inside the column, so they got neatly trimmed. i'll take a better look into it... while i'm at it, how hard is it to change the column bearing?

The hardest part of the bearing is tearing the stuff down so you can get to it. Once there it is pretty easy to pull the bearing and drop the new one in.

well, i traced the wire from the switch into the fusebox, but can't for the life of me figure out which fuse is for that circuit. i chased the wires from the back all the way to the firewall, i've got power going in (white wire off the b/l switch, switch is functioning fine- verified with a test light) but no power coming out of the firewall.

Thanks Lectric80... new turn signal switch solved the problem... my turn signals even auto-center again. now i can actually drive this turd again.
