I've been tearing into several carbs I have had around and I found that on has a brass float and the other a plastic. This is for a 77 and 78 quadrajet with out eletric choke. What is prefered? Can I swap floats?

Use a brass one. Brass floats are easy to tell if they leak, or if they get heavy. A plastic one you have know idea. The plastic one can absorb fuel while in use, and raise your float level. You can take it out to check, the gas will evaporate, and you still wont know.

Would I be able to interchange the brass float from my 78 qjet to the 77 qjet? How di i know that the are comparable? Both share the the numbers 17058213 and 17057213

Use brass if possible!

Brass ones resist alcohol and fuel additives much better than foam floats---I can look up the # for you and post back tomorrow,if that will help you..

Darn!!

I wrote your # down wrong!--but 17057215 and 17058215 are the same float-(I wrote down a "5" instead of a "3"! :doah: )-I'd assume the 17057213 and 17058213 use the same float too--but I'll check again in my book (it out in my shop!)..and get back to ya..might not be until later tonight or tomorrow before I go back to the shop though..

Actually, only 2 # of floats fit 90% of all Q-jets..and they look very different..but its best to use what the book says, just in case..
