Hey All,

The other day while wheeling I let my girl drive and she promptly broke one of the T-Top moonroofs. It's an 89 fullsize Jimmy.

I struck out at the local junkyard and searching online for a replacement.

Not really sure what to do, and I'm looking for some advice. I thought about cutting the whole thing out and installing a sunroof, but I did a search here and many people were saying not to install a sunroof due to leaking and roof strength issues.

Ideally I'd like to put in the exact same part, but can't find one. Anyway, anyone have any suggestions?

Here's a pic...

I don't think I have ever seen that setup from the factory. It's probably been added aftermarket. Also, I can't imagine that much of a strength difference between the current set up and removing that 2-4" piece of sheet metal that seperates the two panes of glass.

Yep, not factory. Either go to a glass shop, and let them cut something custom, or find an aftermarket sunroof that will use a larger opening.

Won't be worse than what you've got. All new seals, etc will be better if installed right.

Gotcha... not factory. That explains my online strikeouts. Thanks a lot for the help guys.

Chris, thanks for recommending a local glass shop. Any good 4x4ing around Ventura?

Not really. I've got a friend who has some land in the river bottom, but he doesn't let us play there much. Afraid the county Sheriff dept. will shut us down. Even thou it's his, they "regulate river land use".

I wish I could help, but man a T-Top in the Blazer sounds like a great idea. Beats out having a 75 or older K5. :D

Could always make one up out of plexi glass. Might not seal very good considering it will probably deflect a little when it "clamps" shut.

That being said theres some really good popup sunroofs out there with teflon seals now. Its not like it used to be where they were all garbage and leaked. Its just a stigma everyone has held on to.

Had a sunroof like that in a Camaro someone busted one side to break into the car. The local glass shop had an aftermarket sunroof catalog to look through and order the one piece of glass based on measurements. No fuss, no muss. New glass came in and installed like nothing ever happened. Except you could tell one side was new and the other was old.
