I bought a parts truck a while back. I think I figured out what contributed to the broken crank.

I haven't pulled the pan, but I think this was a major factor.

I'm stunned...someone welded the TC to the flexplate? :yikes:

Pulled the water pump and plate off today. Looks like a gear tooth stuck, bottom left in the opening. One cam bolt missing and one half out. This has me more curious to see the crank.

Maybe you will find one of those very rare, high performance. Liteweight Welded cranks.
The missing cam bolt is a good sign.
Pulling out a cam bolt is good for an easy 20 ft pounds.
 
That's not a cam bolt, it's an IP driver bolt. It may not have been tightened after an IP change, or it may have just been overlooked. Did you find any remains of the third bolt?
