well, the winch housing broke again. this time the bolts were tight in the housing... never again will I use a ramsey winch - not even if it's free. had to take pics with a film camera so I won't have those up until tomorrow. never again! I really hate cast aluminum.

I bought the winch brand new but am going to call again tomorrow to see what they say about the warranty. edit, I never recieved any kind of reply when I wrote to them about the original housing developing a crack across the bolt holes.

How are you mounting that winch? It looks like you are bolting it "feet down". I think these winches are suppose to mountend like the 8274, which is "feet foward"

I took another look at your pics...it looks like you have one of the
"RE" series winches. Aren't these suppose to be mounted between two angles like the original Ramsey worm gear winches?

it was mounted feet forward flush to the bumper it's an RE12000. other than spooling cable in, this was only the fifth time I had to use it. I'm going to send it back and see what happens from there. they may warranty it they may not. and if not I'm not what sure will happen then.

I would like to see some pictures with it mounted. There is no way to strip the bolt holes unless it is mounted incorrectly. The winch is supposed to be mounted sanwiched between two pieces of angle iron. I have had one of these winches and sold it to 79Stomper a couple years ago and neither of us had a problem with it. And it was only mounted using the front set of bolt holes. You have to make sure the mounting surface is flat and can not flex...What kind of was it?

btw, warn and Ramsey planetary winches are cast aluminum...

Shoot me a pm and I will get you a contact name who can help you out. It may take a couple days to respond due to me not being on here much lately.

I called ramsey and got a RA# and itll go back in the next few days.

the attached picture was taken with the original gear housing that had just cracked and not broken. the bumper is flat where is was mounted and with the bolts tight, it couldn't rock in any direction. the bumper is 3/8" x 6"x3" channel.

Can you share the entire response and not just the "summary"?

What was there reasoning?

Like I said in a previous post in this thread. I will try to help you out on this, but I haven't heard anything from you...

talking with the guy (art ward) on the phone he said "we don't warranty broken parts".

DPI, I sincerely appreciate the offer of help, however, I feel that an individual dealing with a company it is a good gauge of how a company is when they think you're just some joe-shmoe 1200miles away.
