As I continue to dis-assemble this rotted 72 K5, I continue to find more and more little surprises left by the P. O. {Bubba}. Owing to the fact that Bubba put a huge suspension lift on this ole girl, plus a 3" body lift and a set of 35" tires (the top of the hood is at least 5' off the ground), some things obviously escaped his observation... like the correct routing of the sparkplug wires...

While preparing to remove the distributor, I notice the #5 sparkplug wire was exceptionally taught....

Checking a little closer, I see this:

And I think to myself....No way, no way did he do THAT!

But, Yes he DID!

I just don't understand how this area is not totally covered in oil from the obvious gap in that valve cover gasket....

Quite the find!

It could be that it didn't run much after the plug wire reroute..
With the rust looking spots on the valve retainer, maybe it sat a bunch.
Maybe it would be a decent idea to start it with the covers off to verify oiling? Or use a priming tool.

I'm not sure it ever ran after the distributor was put in it. As you see in above pix, no drizzled oily mess on the block at cylinder 7, dipstick oil (tho 23 years old) looks like fresh honey, and when I hooked up a battery, I couldn't find 12v anywhere; everything was dead...(wiring was a total bird's nest)... and the wires to starter were not tightened down to the terminal posts....very loose

Insignificant minor issues in the scope of a complete off the chassis restoration...

Just a speed bump on the way to having a quality shop like Ring Brothers , or Velocity complete a magazine cover restoration . . . .
