My buddy is looking for one, or really any older chevy or gmc. He wants 4" lift 33's, and it to not be a fixer upper. Weve been searching for one on craigs on around here and have a few. Looking for about the 3000 price range, I know haha yah right, but it could be stock just as long as its dependable. Hes moving to phoenix arizona soon and needs something he can depend on to get out their and not have to fix it up first. Any posts would be awesome!! thanks guys.

So he wants a 20 year old truck, cheap, that doesnt require any work. Uhm, yea good luck with that.

It may be possible, but he is going to have to search pretty hard. Even if he finds one, there would still be some maintance I would do before doing any cross country trips, all fluids, belts, hoses, etc would be changed

Oh yah not saying a mint truck by any means, any small maintanance would be done anyway. Saying good drivetrain, solid body, and interior would be nice but if its gotta be that is worse I would say interior before body or drivetrain

Like a nice medium would be perfect, little rust is ok, just a dependable drive train, no monster truck, tires and what not can be bought, and not spotless interior either, but not really lik ripped up seats and holes and broken everything
. Just a nice medium.

Forgot to add I'm in central Kansas along the way to Arizona.

True, only thing is he is trying to find a truck to buy now so we can get it all prepped and tuned while we have space to do it here, so he doesnt have to out their where he wont have that.

Lol, ok but he is lookin for a decent vehicle, he could hopefully get before he leaves in July, so we could work on it here while he has space and time. Could be anything, im just trying to lead him towards a GM truck because he has had the jeep, the dodge, and the ford, and all have had big troubles, and It would be cool to have 2 K5's at the dunes together for one time before he leaves for az. But honestly any trucks you guys know of, post a pic, wont hurt, we have litterally searched craigs and looked at every truck around here. Just wondering if one of you guys would have one, cuz I trust your opinions and info on trucks, and we dont have that over craigslist. Thanks.

Anything can be bought for the right price.....Mine is not for sale but if the right price was offered I would sell.

plus I never meant it that way lol, and you know anyway :)

but if he doesn't have the space, tools, or ability to work on the truck......lets say something cools comes up, you get it running decent, he makes the trip with it....and two weeks later it goes to crap. He is stuck with an old truck he may not want to dump a bunch of money into...especially if he's paying someone else to do it.
If this situation sounds at all possible, he might be better off finding something newer and reliable if it's to make the trip and be his DD. Just saying, wouldn't want to steer someone away from saving a K5 or truck.

These things are expensive to feed and maintain anymore. At 20 years old for the newest ones there are lots of little issues that have crept up even due to age if all one did was sit in a garage. He might be better served by something a bit newer and more practical.

Ten years ago I wanted one as a DD and now I'm glad I didn't. I'd have just driven it into the ground in Michigan while getting bad mpg the whole time. Now I can at least afford to have it as my 3/4 year play toy and backup.

ALSO...I am SO glad I didn't buy a Michigan truck. I believe you said yours was from Tennessee. Find one FAR away from the salt. Mine came from Seattle, WA and there is practicaly no rust underneath. Makes working on it so much nicer. Stuff isn't fused together and lost under a coating of corrosion. Even if someone "restores" a MI truck you'll still have to deal with that sorta BS on anything from a salt state. I saw a lot of trucks that had good looking bodies, some even had totally restored, 100% rust free bodies, but everything underneath looked like well...it had spent 30 years in Michigan road salt. It was cheaper for me to buy my rust free truck out west through a member here, fly out, and drive it back then to buy most of the "restored" K5's I was finding in Michigan.

Ehh, mines got rust, i could honestly care less if the frames got a little surface rust, long as the drivetrain is nice and the body looks nice, im happy. It doesnt worry me though, ill just keep fixing it and fixing it. Im gonna get my 408 in, run new exhaust, then my buddies gonna help me build up my tranny really good for super cheap, (hes a mechanic). So looking at by the end of summer a pretty nice drivetrain for what I want, and ill look into (rust repair) later, cuz it looks great now, survived one winter without much damage, I undercoated it pretty well.

You can say that now but wait until you're fighting a mount or some part of the suspension literally fused together with rust.

It's your/his money. Just basically giving you a heads up. A rust free vehicle will at least mean you start without having to deal with body replacement BS.

Yah true, i do plan on throwing as much paint and undercoating at it as possible, but i dont have the time for a teardown and everthing, I dont mind body work to be honest with ya, and fortunately i am no longer planning on a lift at all since i just fell in love with it one day the way it is haha. So hopefully I wont have to mess with much, but yah every time I take a part off, I always blast it, neverseize it, and paint it.
