buggy build thread.. F-ING TRANSMISSIONS

**** my life!

Went to move the buggy today and in reverse it went forward, took out my damned gate too.

I tried every other gear and it would only go forward. I ignored it and left, came back and it wont do a damned thing now. Removed the shifter linkage tried again and this time nada.

I am seriously wondering about this hobby and the sanity of it all.:(

throw a manual in and be done. it's not as cool as an auto but at least you'll be able to wheel.

I think manuals are much cooler than autos. Automatic transmissions are a great sounding idea, but when they decide not to work, your day can go north quickly. Of course manual transmissions can have problems with the clutch, linkage, etc. I would still rather have the grind box than the slush box though. I wonder if the lowly manual trans with granny gear will ever make a comeback...:(

I'm with these guys, time for a 465 or 4500. Clearly you and slushboxes don't play well together.

have you learned to build these yourself yet? if not i would go th400 and a rebuild is less then 200 bucks and can be done in an hour or so. spares are everywhere and cheaper than whatever youre running now.

A TH400 isn't really an "upgrade" since the internals of a 4L80 behind the OD are essentially the same. The only advantage of a 400 would be that it is much cheaper to rebuild when (not "if") shawn blows it up ;) :D

Well, I think the 400 would be an upgrade as I think the buggy is running a th350 trans. I could be wrong. Either way, definitely start rebuilding your own. you will then be able to beef them up just as you like. SHAWN RATED!

Yup these are th-350's... the 4l80 killer is the 07:doah: Speaking of the 07 it it about near time for it to blow one up, the last few never made it too far past a 1000 miles and this one is about there.

I am not sure what I am going to do. The 350 trans will be going back in though for now, im so good at swapping them I would hate to stop now.

Ahh. I was thinking you had a 4L80E in it. Since you have a 350, then, yeah, you need a 400. The clutches and sprags in a 350 are pitiful. A run of the mill 400 would need a few mods to survive your abuse, but it would still be a reasonably cheap build :D

I built the TH400 in my truck and my 71 Big Block Camaro.
As long as you dont run them low on fluid, they're bulletproof.
IMO TH400 is the best option.

Well I was really been mad at that th-350:haha:

So its time for another chassis yet again, So that is chassis number three in my buggy build thread. Ill be able to get it in august and deposit goes out today!

Now some other changes..

-psc full hydro
-4 seats..dur:D
-coil overs up front.. yay:laugh:
-air bumps..;) weeeeeeeee
-more wheel base
-new purdy seats
- new built th-400 :eek1:
-more motor, super charger, nitrous , maybe just a cam.. not sure but more more more

Dunno when it will be done, not sure if I care.

Bummer is this takes me out going to blazer bash, but every year something does that so nothing new. Ill be wheeling the 07.. so I could still go if time allows and I get a cage in it by then. This also just killed my d-max fund and i refuse to finance a truck.. so looks like ill be rockin a 6.0 a while longer to tow with:doah:

Well long story short..

Tara the g/f is in pharmacy school and just about done.. currently she has a place near her school but will be starting her residency stuff soon. Then she will be looking at a 2 year residency maybe out of state. This is the girl I want to marry.. so I will follow any where she goes... Im thinking of popping the question in january.. So she is planning on moving in around august ..figure it would be better to make sure we can live together rather then wait till I uproot my whole life and move a few states away:crazy:

So If I want to live this dream I need to do it NOW, before marriage crushes it lol

Super excited but really nervous at the same time, I keep trying to visualize how jumping something this will be :)

I don't know how good landbased commercial stuff like Shawn does is, but marine fire guys make a freakin mint.. :eek1: :wink1:

you just need to build a full out desert race truck and get it over with, instead of crawling over obstacles you could just jump them all.
