Well I figured I might as well start one so I can keep track of my progress. So here is what I am starting with: 85 K5 carbd 350/700R4/208, 10 bolts F & R w/3.73s, 6" Procomp Lift.

Here are some pics of when I got it:

My plans are 1 ton axles detroit in rear/ARB up front, 39.5" Iroks, Fuel Injection, full roll cage, dual batt setup, 12000lb winch, custom rear bumper, Auto meter gauges in custom bezel (like Ryoken's), tube doors or half doors, TH400/205, etc......

What are those bracket thingys on the front crossmember?

Things I have done:
DPI Front Bumper and Sliders
XJ Steering Shaft
Tranny Cooler
1.5" ORD Tie Rod w/1ton TREs
Trimmed Fenders slightly
Removed swaybar, light rack, doors

Those are the drop brackets for the sway bar, there are gone. I have had this blazer for about 8 months now. I wish I would have spent the money that I wasted on a front bumper and sliders on FI and axles. But live and learn I guess.

Whoever welded in the steering box brace is a crappy welder. Its welded in stages is all. I will be fixing that when I put in the 2wd steering box. I also plan on doing X-over in the near future. I am hoping to have FI and possibly my axles swapped for Blazer Bash.

ORD steering box braces only call for stitch welding. If thats what you mean.

Nice build! Good luck

The interior is pretty nice!

Yea I have to raise the drivers seat up a few inches because it sits too low, makes it hard to see when wheelin it. I want to do a dash like Ryokens with all my gauges and switches so it looks nice too. Thanks for the compliment!

Windstar Fan Swap

Just finished up my Windstar electric fan mod. The windstar fans are pretty easy to use but I am going to end up building a custom shroud for them when I put in a new radiator. Some of the problems I ran into were: No good locations (ie. waterproof) for the circuit breakers and relays, hard to find a spot for the thermal switch (temp sensor) and Jegs sent me a bad thermal switch.

I ordered the Jegs Fan Kit part #555-10561 and part #555-10559. The first includes the temp sending unit, relay, circuit breaker and acc:

The second includes everything above EXCEPT the temp sending unit:

I had to modify the plastic shroud around the fans to fit around hoses and stuff. The one I got was out of a Junk Yard for $40, but the plastic is very brittle on it. But I think it turned out alright:

Well so far both the fan upgrade and XJ steering shaft upgrade have been well worth my time, money and effort. The steering is much better. Only thing with the fans is I will need to get a more powerful alternator. I just bought a SUmmit brand 100 amp not too long ago but it still drops the voltage when the fan comes on, so a 140 amp is in order. Any recommendations?

Oh ok I am waiting on a On/Off/On switch so that is what I will definately do. I will run only the big one on the thermal switch and the smaller to the switch for extra cooling. Thanks dyeager535, you have been helpful! So the switch will be ON-Both Fans OFF ON-Small Fan.

Oh yea I did the headlight relay mod as well and what a huge difference that was as well!!!! Now I need to build a small sealed box for all of the relays and circuit breakers.

that is great work ,

couple questions ,

what year windstar did you get the fans out of ?

can you do a detail write-up on the headlight mod. ?

thanks,

mike

Thanks! I got it off a 95 Windstar, I think you can get it off of 95-99 Windstars or something.

Here is the link for the headlight relay mod I used:

Let me know if you have any questions!

Just to clarify my previous brief post:

If both fans are coming on as you have it now, disconnect one and see what your alternator can do, and make sure it's enough cooling. In my case I'm running an 87 amp alt, and it works fine. I've tested it with both fans on, and it's a large draw, but I don't typically need the secondary fan, so I figure in the rare (if ever) instances that I need it, I won't care.

How did you mount the fans to the radiator? I can't really make it out in the pics. I kinda see the way you did the top, but what about the bottom?
