Build up questions.

This is being built for my daughter. She picked out the wheels, tires, exhaust, etc, etc, etc. Looking back now though maybe the 16" wheels would not have been a good choice. I have been noticing how tire sizes for the 16" wheel are getting fewer and fewer. Maybe a better choice in the long run is to go to 17" wheels. I am going to take a bit and stew on this.

Okay, finally I was able to order wheels and tires. My daughter picked out pro comp 1069 wheels 16x10 and she still wanted the bfg all terrain ko2 tires 315 75r16 size. Everything will be here Tuesday and we got free shipping on everything. We even picked up new lug nuts.

Nothing showed up on Tuesday or Wednesday. I had the order sent to my mother's house since we were headed to Minnesota to go fishing. Turns out my mom had to take the youngest boy to Law Cruces for school and they tried to deliver on Friday 30 minutes after she had left. Everything showed up on Monday and they are now all installed. The truck looks pretty good and it drives so much better than before. Now, for the rest of the truck.

No pic!!?? :sign25::D

82355, thank you again for posting the pictures. I had sent the pictures to Mr. Martin just to get his approval. I value his opinion more than he knows. I have listened to his words of wisdom and value his thoughts. My daughter has good taste and she picked out this combo that keeps the overall look quite retro. Thank y'all for the kind words.

Sierra is back at the shop. My oldest and I went for a longer drive in her on Monday. We went to a fish hatchery and then took some back roads to a lake. We were on highway 96 which is rough to say the least. The combo of highway speeds and rough highway proved to be too much for the exhaust system and it came lose again. While she is at the shop getting that fixed I am also having all the soft fuel lines replaced. 40+ years has caused them to dry rot.

I got Sierra back yesterday and drove her to work today. Exhaust is tight with no leaks. Also filled her up with gas today and there were no gas leaks at the tank or on any of the other fuel lines. That is a plus. Exhaust studs were replaced and better exhaust doughnuts were put in place at the manifolds as well. All work is done very well. Happy to have her back as I don't like driving my dually, Rosie, to work or, daily driving her.

I have noticed Sierra seems to be dragging her rear end a bit. When I lifted her the front end came up more than the rear did. I suspect 40 years on the stock rear springs has caused them to sag more than I first thought. Problem is though I see there is a bit of an optical illusion going on as well. The rear fender openings are not cut as high as the front ones are. If I measure from the top of the tire to the body line I see the front is 1" higher than the rear to the same body line. If I measure from the top of the tire to the fender opening then I see the front is about 2 1/2" higher in the front. Question is, do I lift the rear another 1" or more? Do I match the fender openings or make the body lines match?

Depends on what you want it to look like? I would make the body lines match...but if you use it to haul heavy things I guess go higher in the back.

I like a nice level look or even a bit low in the back but it looks so sh!ty if you got a load or hooked to a trailer and you look like your dragging the ass! :doah:

JMO I don`t like the look of anything way high in the back.
Air bags for heavy loads! :thumb:

Good point. I hadn't thought about using air bags on this old truck. I am going to research that now. Thank you.
