How to go from Bashed up blazer, to sweet 1st gen "transformer truggy" in one month...

What you see here is the transformation my k5 has undergone at Pacific Fabrication in Morgan Hill, CA. "If you can dream it, we can build it."
Kevin and myself spent 4 LONG weekends working on the k5, friday and saturdays we wouldn't call it an evening before midnight and often we'd stay up till 2 am trying to meet our goal of having this completed in 4 weeks for Pismo Dunes Memorial Day weekend!

K5 buildup and other pics can be found on the pacificfab.net website.
A HUGE THANK YOU to Kevin (k5tpi) and Jen (groupie) at pacific fabrication for helping me with this. It took 20 or 30 12 Packs of Dr. Pepper and many long nights!! My k5 would not be what it is now without them. :thumb:

Now prepare for pic whorring...

"Its 1 in the morning, you wanna quit now or keep on working for another hour?"
BRyan+039.jpg

Skinned bedsides, Billet Tube Clamps and aluminum tube supports to hang the Removeable bedsides...
rb+014.jpg

Kevin Fab'd these Prototype traction bars to hook up the massive paddle tires and keep the axle from wrappin!

Getting ready to paint..

Not only do the bedsides come off, the front clip is now one piece, retains a few of the factory bolts on the cowl and has custom supports up front (in place of the core support) that makes for quick removal.

Cage and inside painted...
Notice the filler panel for the A piller of the cage.. Its not quite an inner cage, but not quite and exo cage. We call it a "Mexo-Cage". (mid exo). :haha:

Pretty much finished, Ready for the dunes with the traction bars and paddle tires in the back.

I'd like to add a few more bars for the door bar, and the main hoop to triangulate it a little better, when we have some more time...

Turns out the Dana 60 front doesn't like to come down from 6 feet of air.:doah:

Nice! That is one beautiful ride you have there.

Pismo, Glamis, other?

Looks like you had a blast, by the way where is everyone getting these paddle tires for their full size rigs, or are they home-brewed?

What happens when all that pretty body work gets smashed on the rocks?? or is it a dedicated pre-runner now?

From webster's dictionary:

Transformer Truggy: trans-for-mer-trug-gy. Noun.
Tube Truggy hidden underneath body panels usually consisting of 2 bedsides and one complete front clip that pulls off before extreme off roading.
Still street legal and very functional when naked. See also RyanB's K5.

Anything internal break with the housing folding like that??

Looks really nice!! i like the removable skins, retaining the blazer looks, but caged buggy when the work begins!

Looks great. Nice work fella and nice workshop too!
So is it time to curb your enthusiasm or invest in some stronger axles?!!!!

Ryan,

That is TOO cool not to see in person.......

So I'm flying out in 2 weeks!! :usaflag:

Nice work Ryan!!!! Dig the orange too.:D

It may be time to weld an axle truss to that 60.:eek1:

Gee, Ryan. I didn't recognize your blazer when I first saw it at the beach. My brother had to point out that that orange blazer was yours. Sorry I didn't come back to talk to you more while I was there. I didn't feel like going back there without my own blazer since it wasn’t working right. You probably going to think I make up owning one in the first place.:rotfl:

That turned out awesome, good work Ryan.

Right click, save.

That is the coolest thing I have seen in a long time. Got a little worried in the beginning, that it would be another tubed out, look nothing like a blazer, buggy. But it turned out great.

:waytogo:

gotta love the removable panels...body damge...HA!:D
