1990 K5 BLAZER

383 Chevy Stroker motor. Eagle 4340 3.750 crankshaft, h beam eagle rods, mahle forged pistons, 9.2 compression, stainless valves, hydr. roller comp cans cam and lifters, champ oil pan and blazer crane roller rockers. with Vortex racing head service heads

Built to have maximun horsepower with Pump gas (93 octane fuel only).
No nitrous or turbo/super charger can be installed without lowering engine compression. Reliable power.
Howell Multiport fuel injection
High pressure GM tank mounted fuel pump.
Stainless steel doug thourley headers. Tri-Y.
Custom 3” exhaust.

Ford Hi pinion Dana 60 front axle with OX cable locker. 5.38 gears. Axle pumkin was swapped sides, machined and angled so that you can run a larger lift with larger tires if desired. Front drive line is straight or slightly less maybe 1 degree. No broken yokes or u joints if the front tires come off the ground.

GM 14 BOLT rear axle with Detroit locker rear disc brakes.
5.38 gears.
43” Michelin tires with spare tire.
20” Staz work true bead lock wheels.
6" suspension lift. Off road design rear 4" shackle flip with 6" heavy duty shackles


Turbo 400 Military K case transimission.
Dual transfer cases - 205 gear box to a 203 gear box.
4 ranges on transfer cases. Manuel shift or Auto on transmission
Drive shaft brake.

High angle drive line rear drive shaft. with long splines.
Rock crawler front drive shaft. with long splines.


Cross over steering (Mild to Wild 4x4) custom with
PSC steering gear box with PSC power assist hydraulic steering.
Gear box frame brace welded in.
Aux. Transmission cooler, oil cooler, power steering cooler.

Transmission temp sensor gauge. Camo paint.


One year and 27 K + spent on this truck. Ground up build. I drive it street and trail.
Removable top. Truck is located in Powder Springs GA.

More info on truck:

Inner fenders were tourch cut to allow more tire clearance. All windows are power windows and roll up and down slowly. Rear sliding window was rebuilt with new GM parts. Rear top has never been removed. The truck seats were falling threw the floor when I got it, due to cracks in the floor pan. These were cut out and rewelded.

The truck might appear to be dirty. It is. It is a sound off road truck that is a lot of fun and it never has broken a part or left me in the field. It has been stuck in the mud but never deeper than the bottom of the motor.

Truck cranks first time every time and has a cool unique sound. Truck drives good on the road and tires run smooth. Where I live you dont have emissons so I drive it on the road. It doesnt have a cat.

Front frame had brace welded in that contains a receiver hitch to pull you out if you need it. 2 front tow hooks. Front and rear bumpers are high clearance, brush guard and off road lights on front bumper have not yet been added. I actually walk around on the front bumper as it is so I havent done much with it. The rear fuel tank carrier slides off the rear bumper and is easy to move. If you need to get in the tail gate.

When I needed a winch i would carry it in side the truck. I have a removable winch mount that can be used front or rear. I will include winch mount with truck. I hate a dirty winch. Mine stays new and rides inside.

Never seen a Ford D60 passenger side pumpkin.
Was this axle built from a Ford centersection with GM outers?

It's a retubed Ford 60, there's a spring perch on the inboard side of the diff.

Pretty neat truck. :thumb:

I didn't notice this, but it's what I assumed since he said Hi pinion, and I have seen that done before.
SO this probably cost a bunch of the 27k

If you are considering buying a truck and doing a bullet proof build this is what it took for me. This truck drives to the mud bog and drives home every time year after year. It is easy to look back and say man I cant believe it cost this much, or that is a lot, but then I think of the long cold wet nights that were spent broken down on a trail out of cell reach or in a mud hole or in a field that a 4 x 4 tractor can not get you out of and/or no wrecker in the world has a long enough cable to help get you out of your jamb. All these things happened to me in the last 15 years with other trucks. Thinking about those hard times is what made me build it this WAY the 3rd time round and I know it is worth every penny.

Yea thats the sucky thing about building a truck like that. Realistically, you would be lucky to get $8500 out of it. Not that its not worth $16k! Just that its next to impossible to get what they are worth back out of them.

i would think you might make more of your money back selling the parts.. in this economy 16grand for anything is tough.. as said before i could see 8-10 grand to the right person..

Questions answered.

Milage on the truck is 343,214. The odometer does not work. It is not connected now. This type truck comes factory with a weak 700r4 auto transmission with overdrive. The 700r4 is easy to tear up with larger tires. This was replaced with a military k case turbo 400 3 speed automatic transmisson with manuel shifting. This allows you to control the shift at the rpm you want. The only difference between a k case and a normal 400 trans is the k case has more metal and is stronger and harder to find to buy.

The trucks transmisson is connected to a gear driven 205 transfer case which is connected to the gear side of a 203 transfer case. This gives you more range selections on your 4 wheel drive. A lot of rock climbers use them for the extra low you get.

This setup for me has never broken. The only problem I have with it is that it drips oil when parked on inclines mostly.

The truck has rock crusher type drive shafts which allow more in and out movement than a normal drive shaft. This keeps the shafts together in extreme flex type enviroments such as coming air borne then hitting the ground hard or going over rough terrian. If you dont upgrade to this type shaft a hard bump will drive your drive shaft into your transfer case and spilt the case and possibly break the transmission to engine bolt holes on the transmission case.
